Omega General Help / crank shaft
« on: 14 May 2011, 23:12:37 »
After a break I'm back to this off on off on project.

If anyone can help, I am a bit confused. In reading Haynes it instructs to turn crank shaft backwards 60 degrees ( 4 teeth movement) before removing timing belt.
Surely after doing this, to get TDC prior to removing timing belt, crank shaft will have to be turned again and therefore TDC is lost.

Secondly it also says to ensure to line up crank shaft timing mark with mark on oil pump as shown in illustration, but it appears this does not match picture.

Any ideas?

All assist will be greatly appreciated. :y

Omega General Help / Re: cam shaft and bonnet prob
« on: 16 May 2011, 20:56:38 »
Great and thanks a lot everyone.  Found there was recent post re bonnet problem, but I can't remove plastic trims as all my phillip head dont fit directly into screws.

Secondly, was able to remove cams although exhaust one was difficult to remove as it seemed to be stuck.  Yes I did undo/removed all caps :D :D but I had to go eurocarparts to obtain a breaker bar to undo bolts. Delivery takes about 4 days, so nothing doing untill then.

I also saw some brown stuff on some of the lobes, appears to be like burn marks.  Any ideas what these are and is there a prolem with cams now or how can they  be removed :question

Appreciation in advance.

Omega General Help / cam shaft and bonnet prob
« on: 16 May 2011, 11:48:15 »
1. I can only open bonnet when someone pulls release and I simultaneously push down on bonnetp to and then pulling up to release initially before I can press flap (want of a better term).

2. did not hold cams in place tightly enough with spanner and left hand one turned, not sure by how many teeth, about 3, returned back to approx original position.

Any ideas on how to rectify 1. Also am I in the proverbial re 2?

Gasket kit inc head bolts £25 Vauxworld (ebay).  Don't know how good they are though.

However, if changing camseal also, been advised by those who know on here orig will be required together with black sealant :y

Gasket kit will be required. Seen them on ebay with head bolts.  Also heard Andy C is the man for parts.

Look at the following pictures.

1.Underbonnet 2.2 labeled photos (page 2 maintenance guide)

2.Cleaning the throttle valve assembly Omega 2.0 16V (page 4 maintenace guide)

3.no idea hopefully someone can help? (page 7  omega gen help)

The above should give some overall picture of the process.

removing aux belt requires tensioner loosened using Spanner or socket.  Prior to this ensure tensioner arm is correctly located between stop.(pic realy required for this)
I found removing alternator support bracket and moving slightly gave enough slack to remove belt.

good luck :y

Unless I'm doing something realy unfathomably ridiculous I still can't remove injectors.

They are able to turn whilst still connected to injector assembly and within the exhaust manifold.

injector connectors are removed also the clips.  Am I doing something wrong :question

Omega General Help / injector removal help required.

I've been able to remove connectors, but removing injectors are proving difficult, also inlet manifold support bracket.  Have removed one bolt but was wondering if there were others.  If there are I will need to jacyk up to gain access unless anyone knows different.  Assistance please

Great to see you're DIYing.  I recently bought the Halfords advanced pro range tool kit on special offer £99.99 (£100 off RRP). Currently on. It would definitely be sufficient as advised on this site you can reserve online and pick up from store.

I would like to invite you join the following cash back site, for additional discount if possible.http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/member31818672325

I've also started to do my mig (2.0 R GLS).  Don't think they are too dissimilar.  As a heads up), Haynes instructed to ensure tensioner arm correctly positioned prior to release to enable auxilary belt removal. After a considerable time of checking, re-checking with ,mark 1 eyeball and rereading manual I found mine did not possess this and all was needed was to release alternator to remove said belt.

Also when you come to remove injector electrical connectors, metal retaining clips (5) are located running between wire assembly encasement and camshaft covers. These need to be released to enable connector removal.

I've never done this job before but am enjoying so far. IMHO I believe this is a good project to cut my teeth on (at least for me) :) :) ;)
Take it slow, be methodical, take before pics and through each stage, label parts and where located from. ;)

I am currently just having a little prob of removing injectors also inlet manifold support bracket, which I'm about to ask help on.

Keep motivated :y
