cam shaft and bonnet prob
« on: 16 May 2011, 11:48:15 »

1. I can only open bonnet when someone pulls release and I simultaneously push down on bonnetp to and then pulling up to release initially before I can press flap (want of a better term).

2. did not hold cams in place tightly enough with spanner and left hand one turned, not sure by how many teeth, about 3, returned back to approx original position.

Any ideas on how to rectify 1. Also am I in the proverbial re 2?

As long as the crank had been rotated back the 60° then 2. won't have caused any problem at all.   :y

Should be ok on the cams.

You can adjust the bonnet cable or, if the lock spring is worn then repalce the spring (about 3 quid). Maintenance guides on here for both jobs.

Great and thanks a lot everyone.  Found there was recent post re bonnet problem, but I can't remove plastic trims as all my phillip head dont fit directly into screws.

Secondly, was able to remove cams although exhaust one was difficult to remove as it seemed to be stuck.  Yes I did undo/removed all caps :D :D but I had to go eurocarparts to obtain a breaker bar to undo bolts. Delivery takes about 4 days, so nothing doing untill then.

I also saw some brown stuff on some of the lobes, appears to be like burn marks.  Any ideas what these are and is there a prolem with cams now or how can they  be removed :question

Appreciation in advance.
