Ordered a genuine B&S carb overhaul kit plus spark plug and air filter. Up to £46 spent now.

A couple of other minor repairs required (crack in the grass box plus front wheels seem out of alignment and don't raise and lower quite evenly) but nothing a quiet afternoon in the garage won't cure  8)

Also sucked out all the petrol and dumped it in the Zaf. I don't want to add to my woes by letting it sit over winter.

Evoke Hybrid vehicle
AKA half lithium ion BOMB ,half diesel  :P

A rational look at the evidence suggests a diesel.hybrid Evoque to be the cause. Once the runaway battery got up to.speed, it burned down through the concrete enough to allow the car to drop through the structurally ruined concrete to the floor below. Which is where the fun really began.
How very "rational" of me 3 days ago  :D

Except of course that both of you, and the Aussie pr!ck in the video are all wrong about it being a hybrid. Numberplate is/was E10 EFL. Which is a non hybrid diesel.

Unless of course you believe the big conspiracy machine has gone in and changed its DVLA status.

About the only thing that John is wrong about is the cause of the Liverpool fire... yes it was a Land Rover product, but it was an older petrol model with aftermarket LPG fitted iirc.
So he's 2 for 2 then. How very 'rational' of him.  ;D

Fair enough, clearly not so easy  ;D.

I do remember the Tesla onboard memory issue (allegedly fixed with an upgrade to MCU2 IIRC - but I guess only time will tell). Although I thought it was as much to do with Tesla harvesting everyone's data for their own benefit as it was dashcam recording. I suppose ultimately its not as marketable as a feature compared to having your car go off and park itself, come back when you call, talk to FaceAcheBook and X (formally known as Sh!tter) and the other assorted bobbins that seems to be what people are after.

I saw some commentary from the driver, apparently he had just parked up when the fire started. Car was a diesel.

You know the Evoque PHEV is petrol right?

Good tip thank you  :y

Picked it up tonight, nice chap who'd had it since new. Started from cold on the second pull but hunts as soon as you take it off choke. Definitely a little bit of tinkering to do, but obviously plenty of life left in the old girl yet.

I assume there's no oil filter on these? I had a look on B&S but as far as I can tell the only ones they sell are for tractor mowers.

And we have a secret B&S saddo on the site, isn't that right Mr YZ250 ;D

 ;D ;D
This only came about...

Ah don't be so modest, you sound like a well credentialled expert to me. You can expect my call shortly  ;)

Well, I suppose we'll find out, I've bought it now... ;D

I had a look and whole new carbs can be had for £20-35 depending on how authentic you want them to be, and service kits for half that amount. I figure less than £50 I should have a very usable mower.   :y

Good tip on the E5 Mr TB, I honestly wouldn't have thought of that. :).

The battery ones just don't have enough power to get through the grass when its been left for a bit, a good old second hand Atco Admiral petrol would be my suggestion.

Somewhat ignoring what I've just said - eBay provided this potential bargain and winter tinkering project. What do you reckon mrDTM?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225760100917?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ar5po0l7tk6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=D-AKHJpRS7-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Assuming the seller means it's hunting, probably a decent carb clean/service would see it right... :-\

I do like the idea of a petrol, but not sure I CBA with the maintenance etc that goes with it. Living as we do in suburbia, we have three lawns, but totalling only about 125m2. The size and weight of a petrol mower is more inconvenience than benefit in this scenario I feel. But the advice on Atco is noted and they had caught my eye as a good brand.

Nah...petrol with a 7 litre V8 is what he needs to cut long grass. :)

What's your weapon of choice M'lud? Must be something fairly chunky to keep your rolling acres under control...

As we had some sun this weekend I tried to get one last cut of the grass in. Hadn't gone more than about 5 yards before the mower slowed, stopped and gave off some blue smoke, and a nice burning smell.

Stripped it apart, found the top part was full of dried dead grass. What a sh!tty design! Anyway, cleaned the commutator and the brushes up, hoovered out all the cr@p and put the motor back together.

Then this happened....  ;D

So, probably a new mower then.  ;D question is, do I go with a new 240v one, or spend a bit more and get a compatible 18v one from Makita and not bother faffing with the cables every time I want to use it....

In truth I probably won't do anything for a bit, as it's not going to be required for a few months now.

I do wonder why, when so many newer cars have all round cameras that do few (maybe none?) Do what Teslas can do and allow you to record the footage just by plugging in a USB/HDD. Seems like it wouldn't be a hard feature to implement compared to some of the useless sh!te that does make it onto production cars.

Even OH's 8 yr old Evoque has a load of cameras on it, so it's not like it's new technology  :-\

Interesting choice of charge 'outraging public decency ' - didn't even know this was an offence. Apparently punishable by unlimited fine or/and unlimited prison time   :y
Walk down the high street with the old man in your hand, you'll soon find out what that charge means  ;D

Unless binoculars are in the standard bobby's kit these days, I reckon I'd be safe  ;D
