Evoque insurance shocker
« on: 07 June 2024, 21:55:49 »

The Evoque is going on 21st June so the 1st July renewal isn't particularly relevant. But given RIAS didn't know, the duly sent the renewal offer this morning.

I was interested to see the number given all the wailing and gnashing of teeth online about JLR insurance of late. Last year's premium was £556, this year... £443  ;D

Part of me wonders if they missed the 1 off the front of this year's premium.   ::)

Lots of moans on the RR forums about insurance, I went on Go compare as I'm expecting LV to be around the £600 mark at the beginning of July, last year it was around £350 . Quote me happy came back with £255 fully comp which I accepted immediately, as long as I'm legal that's fine with me, a 16 year old vehicle would be a write off for the smallest amount of damage. Owners in London are really moaning about their renewal. Everything is online with Quote me happy & they answered all my questions very quickly via email the only phone contact you have with them is a 24 hour accident help line. All paperwork I received has the Aviva logo.

The insurance scam..
Well today I decided to see how much it's going to cost to insure
18 year old son on a 2006 Micra TPFT. ::)

£1123.00 per year, and they wonder why "da you'ff" don't insure their motors.

So it'll cost more to insure than it's worth.

Fully comp is sometimes cheaper.

I was a naughty boy and didn't bother with tax or insurance. The rozzers would chase me for miles and if they caught me would give a good kicking and say I 'slipped' or 'resisted arrest' when I turned up to court battered to shit.

It's amazing  I turned out so well. ::) ::) 8)

Similar story here. Being legal was "for poofs", when I was a teenager.
One golden rule though was never to to gun it away from a stationary Police car or road block, as there was a very good chance of becoming just another statistic.
If they were trying to catch you in  their MK4 Cortina or similar, then it was just sport for both sides.

I remember my first car cost about as much to.insure.as it did to buy... MK2 2.3 Granada. Paid a grand for the car and another £890 to insure it TPFT as a 19 year old. :o

Lent my 2.8 Mk2 Granny to my (then 18) son, he's 59 now  :D. The plod stopped him and basically said that they thought he'd nicked it, because it was very unusual for a teenager to be driving an old mans car. He said that they seemed a bit miffed that all documentation was in order.  ;D

My first car in 1971 was a 1964 Vauxhall Velox PB 3.3 Hydramatic it was in beautiful condition cost me £130 to buy & £156 to insure it, kept it for three years & traded it in for  brand new Ford Escort Mexico, half a century ago now.
