General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 27 June 2015, 18:23:20 »
Just removed power sounder just in time . All the batteries had leaked onto the
circuit board  ::)
If you get new batteries, i'd be keen to hear where from...
Thanks, Phil
NiCd cells with legs to allow them to be soldered to a circuit board are easy to get hold of. The big problem is that a circuit board that has been leaked on is likely to spontaneously combust. I doubt whether EMD is in any hurry to put his damaged powersounder back in his car.

Last time I looked there were suitable batteries available from uk.farnell.com or rswww.com but it made more sense to pay about £50 for a new powersounder rather than almost as much for replacement batteries.
So, when I looked I couldn't find an exact match 3.6V 140mAH NI-MH (they're not NiCd), and didn't want to go to the effort of installing only to find they'd bugger up something else !
Are new Powersounders only £50, and if so, where from ?  For that, as you say it would be sensible to buy new.

Aha, thanks

Sad to hear.  I understand that The Vulcan fuel tanks aren't that big - they were designed to be big enough to get where their going to drop their Nuclear payload, but given that they had, there was no point coming back !

Good luck with them-I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole personally... Keep an eye on the sidewalls.
Phil

Manufacturers do have issues occasionally. Goodyear Eagle f1's asym 2 are well used here. But a certain admin had quality issues with more than one of their tyres.

Good year UK site being closed down I hear on the news though, so maybe there's more to it. ;D
Or Dunlop are taking over. Practically the same company anyway, I gather.
That rings true with me, Kumho took an age to admit liability in my case.  They would have benefitted by owning up ASAP and giving me a full refund for my troubles.  As they didn't, I tell others of my poor experience.

General Car Chat / Re: Koenigsegg sets new 0-300-0 km/h record
« on: 27 June 2015, 17:30:42 »
An impressive 3.24 seconds quicker than their old car so far, but they expect a bit more when they go for the official record soon. :) :) :)

http://www.gizmag.com/koenigsegg-one-1-0-300-0-kmh-record/38078/

Lord Opti needs to visit his dovecot and place an order sooner rather than later if he doesn't want to be at the back of the queue. The 0-300 km/h in 11.922 seconds performance he should find adequate and it will save on the cost of a remap for the fugly asthmatic wheeze box. :y :y :y
What's most impressive, the time taken to get to 300kmh or the time taken to get back to zero ?

General Discussion Area / Re: Car Insurance
« on: 27 June 2015, 17:12:41 »
Sheila Hancock has just been on the telly, she is 83 now. She was outraged that her insurance company had increased her premium from circa £800 to £2000.
I think tests for over 75's are well overdue. If you pass the test, lower premium. If not, that's your lot.

Of course, this is unlikely to happen, because it would cost the government millions to set it up and billions to look after the oldies who could no longer drive and became confined to the house.
I think you're right about mandatory age-related testing... if you're safe you've nothing to worry about

So, what would one pay for an ECU remap that would give me 'only' 10-20% BHP performance improvement on my 2.6 ?

You won't get big returns from a NA car.
Forgive me, NA ?

My heart goes out to all those families affected. Lot of Brits killed out of the current 39 toll.
Agreed, terrible

The Omega V6 is pretty much at it's limit.  You'll notice bugger all from a remap.  :y
Ive Driven the 2.2 and the 3.2....i get the impression from here that the 3ltr is the better of all omegas.  :-\
I am lead to believe that the 2.6 is fairly crap and only a small step up from the 2.2...
I went from a 2.0 to a 2.6 (via a 2.5) & the difference was very noticeable - a better engine note too !

I fitted my spare at the lakes a few years back and can assure you I drove all the way back home (300odd miles) without giving it too much thought :-X ::)
Just what I did too !
