....they're retaining clips or springs.
Vauxhall used to do a kit - I remember buying it when I first got my car but that was a long time ago now!

Oh, I was thinking about the clips that look a bit like a cross that fit over the outer edge of the pads

Welcome to & enjoy the forum.

I have a 2.2 diesel estate & it's brilliant. Have owned it a good few years now, been round Europe in it several times & it has been completely reliable.
Fuel economy is pretty damn good for such a big car.
I am under the impression the chain never needs replacing but will stand corrected if I hear otherwise.
For longevity, I would suggest regular changes of the oil & all filters ...will look after you if you it
