Just a quick thought to those fitting DIY DRL's .... have you ensured they either dim when headlights are switched on or go off at that point ???

AFAIK it is illegal for them to remain on at full brightness  (as dangerous due to blinding others)...

A blonde lady motorist was about two hours from San Diego when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down…… The man walked up to the car and asked, "Are you going to San Diego?"   "Sure," answered the blonde, "do you need a lift?"   "Not for me. I'll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck. My problem is I've got two chimpanzees in the back that have to be taken to the San Diego Zoo. They're a bit stressed already so I don't want to keep them on the road all day.  Could you possibly take them to the zoo for me? I'll give you $100 for your trouble”   "I'd be happy to," said the blonde.   So the two chimpanzees were ushered into the back seat of the blonde's car and carefully strapped into their seat belts, and off they went.

Five hours later, the truck driver was driving through the heart of San Diego when suddenly he was horrified!  There was the blonde walking down the street, holding hands with the two chimps, much to the amusement of a big crowd.   With a screech of brakes he pulled off the road and ran over to the blonde.   "What are you doing here?" he demanded, "I gave you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo!"   "Yes, I know you did," said the blonde. "But we had money left over so now we're going to Sea World."

You know you will forward this.

Does it matter ??

1.  Testing won't stop you catching it if you don't already have it.

2.  Testing won't cure it if it shows you are infected

The ONLY time testing is of use (other than for number crunching purposes) is for those who think they might have it and are in a position to pass it on ... for the rest of us .. simply staying at home is more than sufficient.

3. Anti-body testing doesn't stop you catching it a second time .. even if immunity works .. the test doesn't stop it, the immunity does.

No it's not, it's late autumn....  ::)

OZ/NZ might not have stopped the virus, but I reckon they have been pretty successful in limiting the opportunity for infected people to enter their countries, which must have contributed to their low infection/death rates so far.

We will see what happens when they open up again.  :-\

Their apparent success is down to the fat the population density is the square root of jack all.

You only need to look at the hot spots in the UK, they are the most densely populated areas with towers blocks and crammed in housing, an ideal transmission ground (it only takes a few idiots in such places and it moves easily, less densely populated and it has minimal impact)  :y

Sorry Mark, you'll be thrown out for that .. common sense, fact, and the CORRECT use of statistics is not allowed in this thread ...    :)

I get the idea of quarantine for those arriving in the country by air,but what about those arriving by ferry/the tunnel or have I missed that they aren't operating non-trade services?

Ferries and shuttle are only allowing freight, and UK Nationals,  and persons with legitimate reasons to travel, being enforced on French side.

Unless they have a dinghy and a pair of oars. There have been fickin hundreds of them arriving this week.
Imo the quarantining  of arrivals is at least two months too late. GB is an island and in theory at least, could have kept the virus from arriving on its shores.

New Zealand have pretty much managed this and Australia also to a lesser extent.  :y

Nearest coasts to both are a few thousand miles ... ours is around 20  ... population of New Zealand .. around 5 million .. .. population of Australia .. 24 million  population of London alone ??   around 10 million ..

so lets continue to compare apples to water melons ... yup .. they are both edible fruits.... I think thats about it ..

Exactly what was needed to be said ... with all the mainstream media bleating about "how are we going to get out of this" .... and that idiot Starmer "demanding a road map" ... the answer is...

Very, Very slowly, some small steps at a time, and if the numbers start to rise, those steps will be reversed.

It is not down to the government to stop the spread of the disease... that is an impossibility .. it is down to every single person to actively takes steps to ensure their own safety.... and if you need telling that every 30 seconds you are either very thick, making a political staement, or simply stirring the shit for your own agenda.
I agree totally.  But little children can't be held personally responsible for their own safety, so, unless the government come up with a set of rules which guarantee their safety, then how can schools open?

Why ??

Every school is different, in size, layout and facilities.

Every school has a Head, a "Board of Governors", and a set of teachers.... it is THEY who should be setting the rules for within their own establishment ....

There are no "guarantees" in life .. let alone with a highly contagious virus .. so to demand "rules that guarantee safety" is more a political point than a reality

Of course, being stupid I forgot .. teachers unions are mostly labour controlled/left wing orientated .. so it is natural to blame a tory government for everything

Decent quality mains network adaptors will give far better results than cheap USB wifi adapters... they are sometimes referred to as "powerline network adaptors" .. cheap and nasty are just that .. but decent ones are quite useable

Some reviews here..

That there looks very interesting , I'll look into that .
Can I ask , do you use them ?
Thanks

yes ....  router/telephone master socket position is such that I can't (won't) replaster the whole house to get cat 5E everywhere...  so I use decent powerline adaptors where needed ... especially to the TV for things like netflix .. never had a problem with the data rate even when watching HD films..   the PC mostly still runs off wifi as it is fast enough .. but if SWTSMBO wants to use her tablet to do something and uses all the wifi bandwidth then the PC gets switched to the powerline and normality is restored !!

« on: 09 May 2020, 20:33:53 »
If the blower runs at 40 watts .. then off 12v it is pulling 40/12 = 3.33 amps .. if the supply you are using is limited to 30 watts .. is is only capable of supplying 30/12 = 2.5 amps .....so it is no wonder the item is struggling ... in some respects you are lucky it is still working ... it "should" have blown any fuse protection it is supposed to have !!

Easy answer .. get a power supply capable of supplying 4 amps !!  (minimum) ...   :)

Most car cigarette lighters are limited to around 5 or 6 amps ... so that is why it will run from the car

There is no requirement to have an MOT to be insured, I have NEVER seen such a stipulation in insurance documentation - it would leave the Insurers open to all sorts of payouts they would rather not do ....  however, the vehicle must be kept in "roadworthy" condition ...  it could reasonbly be argued that as you are driving to a pre-booked MOT that you believe the vehicle is in roadworthy condition .. after all no-one drives to an MOT to deliberately fail .. do they .. :)
