Omega General Help / Re: Spark Plugs
« on: 30 June 2007, 08:08:01 »
hi guys - still not been able to do the job - all this rain. did go to the vx dealer - the spare parts guy is not a real lot of use. He wasn't sure which gasket it was for my model even though I supplied the engine number etc. Also the sealing compound they only have in tubs at around £8. Can i get another sealant from my local car DIY place - is so which do you recommend.

no sorry the actual electrode at the tip of the plug - thought the oil must have been in the piston bore

thanks for all your help everyone - have read the inst and will go and get the new gasket on Monday. Seems fairly straightforward. Still a bit worried about the plug electrodes been covered in oil though??

Thanks again all

Back again - having spent the last few months reading through all the brillians info on this site. Thought I'd do a bit of maintenance and seeing the only thing I haven't done so far is change the spark plugs - was done when I bought the car 9 months ago. Horror of horrors plugs 2 & 3 absolutley drenched in oil. Had no problems starting - but I have always thought the power was a bit low. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Ok, there is a fault with the air/fuel mix that could be caused by numerous things.  Often first fault code will relate to oxegen or lambda sensor which is located in the exhaust and sends a message to the ECU to change the mix - it will also set off the emissions light.

Another possible cause is the Mass Air Flow meter (as it was with mine) but this is generally reliable.

The main cause is often a small air leak in the inlet manifold.  So first job would be to check all the hoses for splits from the air intake box to the engine block (especially the bellows).

I'd also strngly recommend following AA's guide and clean all the hoses and breathers out.  See here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1162397695

A fresh oil and filter would not go amiss either, your run to work mirrors mine and advice here is to change oil regularly (every 3m) and I also fitted a new fuel filter for a fiver.  You could also try cleaning the injectors with Redex or Forte Injector cleaner.  All of these things will make your engine run sweet and if the light is still on then its time to pay up.

If you can get an independant to read the codes - post them up and we can help further.  But don't worry about the light unless your MOT is due sometime soon or it starts flashing. HTH

Thanks Chopsdad - will have a go at all of those tomorrow (weather permiting). Thanks again for yours and everyone elses advice. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

What does the light look light Peter - is it an orange engine block sited above the red handbrake warning light or is it more like a car with a spanner wedged in the sunroof on the left hand side?

Yes chopsdad its the orange engine block icon and its on constantly now - cannot seem to get rid.

Omega General Help / Engine Management

Hi everyone - once again need alittle help. The engine management icon has appeared on the dashboard. It did show a few weeks ago but then disappeared after a couple of days. It has now come back and looks as if it is here to stay. I'm only doing short journeys about 5 miles to work and 5 back - not been on a long run for a while.I would like to know if it pointing to something serious. The curious thing when the light is on the car seems to run better and I'm definitly getting a slightly better mpg. Any ideas!

Thanks again

Omega General Help / Central Locking

Help Guys Please!
My Pride and joy has developed fault :'( :'(. The central locking has stopped operating on the drivers door. Sometimes the button moves part of the way but usually not enough to either lock or unlock the door. All the other doors and boot work OK :)

This in turn has led me to discover that if i just use the key to lock the door, works fine except for unlocking - it unlocks the doors buy does not disable the alarm - neighbours don't like being wakened at 0530 >:(

I must admit I have not investigated inside the door panel as due to the cold weather - no garage. If its just a case of replacing a unit can I order it from my local VX dealer??

Many thanks in advance for your help.!!! - Keep up the good work
