Central Locking
« on: 31 January 2007, 07:12:49 »

Help Guys Please!
My Pride and joy has developed fault :'( :'(. The central locking has stopped operating on the drivers door. Sometimes the button moves part of the way but usually not enough to either lock or unlock the door. All the other doors and boot work OK :)

This in turn has led me to discover that if i just use the key to lock the door, works fine except for unlocking - it unlocks the doors buy does not disable the alarm - neighbours don't like being wakened at 0530 >:(

I must admit I have not investigated inside the door panel as due to the cold weather - no garage. If its just a case of replacing a unit can I order it from my local VX dealer??

Many thanks in advance for your help.!!! - Keep up the good work

Not to hard at all...

Follow the facelift door card removal guide in the maintenance section and then reach into the door, the solenoid is bolted to the door catch.

There are a number of rods that connect to the latch, these are held on by clips which can be un-latched and swivveled through 90+ deg to release the rod. From memory there is one from the interior door catch and one to the lock indicator...

Tehn you need to remove the 3 torx headed bolts that hold the catch in place. You have to move the assembly down to release it from the exterior door handle plunger before it can be moved upwards enough for you to be able to get to the electrical connector and release it.

Then remove the whole assembly (takes a bit of wiggling)

The motor is secured to the latch with a couple of screws

Is it worth taking it apart and trying to apply some TLC with WD40 first...?

No...its a swine to take apart...an even bigger swine to remove the micro switches....worse still to clean them......and then re-fitting is not so easy to!

Without wanting to contradict the great one......

In my case the button was moving a bit, but not enough.

Door card off, good clean up of linkage, lock etc. with WD40 then a good helping of grease and it's perfect now.

The linkage / lock had just seized up to the point they were too stiff for the actuator.

You must have selected it (presumably accidentally?) when you created the post - each thread has its own icon, selected by person who starts it...
