Omega General Help / Re: Trade club changes
« on: 06 July 2013, 20:08:49 »
Thanks, Chris. I'll give it a month to settle down, then re-register somewhere.
Its not dealers specific. You can use any participating dealer, anytime.
I did not know that! I have always been loyal to Bellingers. So as long as I show my Autobahnstormers card I can get trade club terms at any participating dealership  I wonder where my card is?

Omega General Help / Trade club changes
« on: 06 July 2013, 08:11:16 »
I have always used Bellinger Vauxhall Grove, Oxon, as my trade club supplier. I was advised yesterday that they can no ldo trade club. Vauxhall have changed rules, dealers in TC must turn over £50k pa TC, run 3 delivery vans, and have a TC sales rep. Is there a list of surviving TC dealers?

Omega General Help / will a 3.0 starter fit on a 3.2?
« on: 06 July 2013, 00:10:05 »
There is a starter on e-bay claiming it will fit 2.5, 3.0, 2.6 and 3.2. I enquired today at Bellingers Vauxhall and was told 2.5 and 3.0 the same, 2.6 and 3.2 same part number. Will the 3.0 starter fit a 3.2?

Are all V6 starters the same? I see on e-bay adverts for V6 starters  inferring they fit all V6 Omegas. It's one of the items I did not remove from my 3.0 when I scrapped it, never having had a starter fail on a V6,

Earth lead connection sound?
Certainly worth a try. I clipped a jump lead from engine lifting hook to battery negative terminal, tried starter with headlights on -no cranking or click, headlights stayed bright. So I guess not engine earth strap.

OE03EWW 3.2 ex-police special manual petrol saloon

This morning put in key, turned to start position, nothing. Put on headlights, turned key to start, headlights did not dim. Tried jump leads to battery from another battery, no change. I suspect failed starter solenoid.

I suppose I should check I have 12 volts to solenoid; where are the wires, what colour wire do I want? Is there a fuse in this circuit? Are there any other checks I should make?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 EML light on cam sensor suspected
« on: 01 July 2013, 17:57:45 »
Thanks Gentlemen. I found in the past cheap cam sensors did not work but so called Genuine Siemens did. More recently I have found genuine Siemens do not work either.

Is the 2.2 sensor the same as the 2.0 sensor?

Omega General Help / 2.2 EML light on cam sensor suspected

Y188NFA 2.2 petrol manual saloon
EML light (engine block) on again. Only sympton is hesitation when cold. two weeks ago this car was brought home to me by son Ben for MOT work. The light was on then. The MOT shop plugged in their Snap On code reader and it read cam sensor. He put the light out, it stayed out, and the car passed MOT. It has come on again. I know the 2.0 cars are sensitive to aged cam sensors. Is the 2.2 similar? Is the rule only use genuine Vx spare?

I'm sorry to say that my car is not (for me) an economic repair.  It has developed a fault with the ABS which has taken out the speedo and puts the ABS and TC lights on.  It's not permanent, but it occurs for part of every journey.  I've looked on the forums, and it seems to be a known fault and costs a lot of money to get fixed.  It would cost a lot even if I could fix it myself, which I can't.

Probably ABS ECU failure, cure is to remove the ECU from car, send to ecutesting for repair, cost £100, then refit. However, you say it occurs for part of every journey. If it comes on, then goes off again on the same journey, it probably is a faulty sensor or eluctor ring. I had a rear elector ring split so that it could wander about on the end of the drive shaft, in and out of alignment with the sensor. Once I had found it, the cure was to glue it into place with araldite.

Omega General Help / Re: Exhaust Manifold Steel Gasket
« on: 26 June 2013, 20:12:06 »
I presume you mean the gasket between manifold and cat section. I find changing the cat section takes and hour or more, and I would not want to do it all over again for the cost of a £3 gasket. One is instructed to avoid using grease or any gasket compound lest it poison the catalyst. I keep spares hanging on my garage wall.

Omega General Help / Re: Front tracking

That will definitely be forcing the balljoint in a way it's not designed or tested for :-\
True, but it's a ball joint, strong in every direction except ball out of socket direction.

Not as bad as I imagined, but IMO don't jack on the wb. Not worth the risk.

I wonder how the ride height compares with car on the ground, any measurement taken? Wheel to top of wheel arch?
I'd expect it to ride higher...?
No measurements taken. I'd expect it to be a bit higher, but not much. Will measure next time I do it.

Omega General Help / Re: engine cuts out

I do not understand how cam or crank sensor failure would cause 'all dash lights on, power steering going', etc. There is a mystery here.
Engine's stalled - thats whats caused all dash lights to come on and no power steering ::)
It happened to me with the car in gear and still bowling along. I was in a manual Senator, but it was an eerie experience. Dash lights on etc seems hardly worth mentioning if the engine has stopped. It was a bit similar when the aux belt pulley seized on my 2.5 Omega manual, but then the cause was obvious and the belt failed. On the Senator the belt survived. Car in this thread is an auto.
