Went to have a peep at the car today. Wasn`t to impressed to be honest. interior wasn`t to bad but under the bonnet looked like it hadn`t been touched for a while. Chap couldn`t answer questions about cambelt change etc as he had only owned the car for 15 months and had no record of any previous work. Took it for a test drive ( just to be polite of course  ;) ) and it was very very quick. Told him thanks but no thanks. Going to spend a bit on my Elite instead and keep that up to spec.  :y Now where did i put the great pink one`s phone number.....

General Car Chat / Any know issues?

I am thinking of making an offer for a 2003 3.2 V6 Vectra GSi Automatic with 89k on the clock which has been advertised locally at around £1300. Anyone got any views/experiences of these cars or things to look out for? I wont be getting rid of my Elite estate if i do go ahead and buy it. Just want to know of any known faults to look for if i do go ahead. Thanx.

General Discussion Area / Re: Waterless car washing
« on: 17 January 2012, 21:18:10 »
I have used a few different waterless products which i have purchased from car shows etc and found them all to be excellent providing the car is not heavily soiled. As you have said, if heavily soiled wash with water first. They were not cheap ( around £15 ) and the bottles/sprays were only enough for around 4 to 5 applications on my estate with the micro fibre application and cleaning cloths included. Hope that helps.

General Car Chat / 5 speed auto box ?????
« on: 08 December 2011, 21:52:38 »
Just been browsing through E-Bay looking at Omega stuff and i have just seen an ad for a `03 reg 2.6 auto Omega saloon with stated,  " The automatic gearbox is fitted with the innovative and highly fuel efficient Vauxhall Eco 5th gear." Bargain price at the moment and a very nice motor, but still 3 days to go. I always assumed that the auto boxes fitted to our omega`s were 4 speed. I suppose someone more knowlegeable will enlighten me.

General Discussion Area / X Box and MW3..
« on: 07 November 2011, 21:22:17 »
Got in this afternoon to find my son`s X Box connected up to the big tv in the living room. He was nowhere to be seen so i asked the wife why it was downstairs instead of up in his room. Apparently Modern Warfare 3 is being released, and he is in bed at the moment because he has pre-ordered it and is collecting it tonight at midnight from our local Sainsburys. He plans to play it through the night when he gets back. Looks like we wont be seeing much of him for the next few days then....

I like what has been said in previous posts about common sense going out of the window nowadays and the compensation culture taking over our lives. I was pushing my tool barrow between blocks of the factory i work in the other week, and later i had a visit by the factory safety officer. Apparently it had been reported to him that i did not keep to the designated walkway as i crossed the yard. He gave me a speech about the dangers of being hit by a fork lift truck or one of the delivery lorries which use the roadway within our factory. I informed him that the designated walkway led to an entrance in the other factory block with a six inch step which was impossible for me to wheel my toolbarrow up and through, and that i had to go through the roller doors. I also pointed out to him that i am not exactly a small person and if a driver could not see me in broad daylight then they shouldn`t be driving! He muttered something about not being able to sue the company if i got hit and walked away. Everything seems to be over the top nowadays in fear of being sued and common sense is ignored. >:(

General Car Chat / Re: Contitech wheel barings
« on: 04 October 2011, 20:02:39 »
As Jimbob has stated in his last post where he gave part numbers for the bearings and hub units members should be aware of the diference between the rear wheel bearings. According to my records at work, estates require part number 904864468 and saloons 90510542. However, if your omega saloon is an ex-plod etc, you could need the same part number as the estate. Bearing dimensions for the estate ( 90486468 ) are outer diameter 74mm, inner or bore size 37mm and width 45mm. The saloon rear wheel bearing is 74mm diameter, inner or bore of 39mm and a width of 39mm. As you can see there is quite a difference between them so it may be best to check sizes before buying, if possible.  :y

Certainly Kevin  :y Although i don`t expect any problems. SKF have been making them for 100+ years now and our bearings are used on Ferrari ( we are one of their sponsors ) and 99% of the other F1 teams. We also supply car manufactures with bearings, and many repackage them into their own replacement spares kits. Obviously if anyone encountered any problems with any hub units or rear wheel bearings this would be taken seriously, and believe me, a full investigation would follow. I was wondering what make of bearings were being used in the Contitech kits, as i am more familiar with this company supplying drive/transmission belts like Gates.
As a footnote, before someone who closely follows F1 will no doubt point out, Schumacher recently had to retire from a race due to wheel bearing failure. On investigation by our automotive division, it was found that the team had modified the brake assembly housing without consulting us about the consequences. This was found to have lead to the unit overheating the bearing which lead to it`s failure. This has been the only instance of bearing failure we have been informed of in F1 for quite a while.

Maintenance Guides / Power sounder disconnection
« on: 31 August 2008, 17:03:31 »
Hi, I have read lots of posts on the forum about power sounder problems members have. Nearly all the replies mention disconnecting the unit as a solution. I have had the same problems and as a few members, like me, are new to miggys i thought i would post some pics with a step by step guide. It only takes around a half hour and the tools you need are; torx screwdriver to remove screw on scuttle cover. 13mm socket and ratchet to remove wiper arm. Possibly a set of small pulley drawers to remove wiper arm off spline. 10mm combination spanner. Electrical tape. Anti sieze grease.
The power sounder is under the scuttle cover on the driver's side.

Remove retaining screw on scuttle cover and unclip small rubber seal.

Prise off the cap on the wiper arm to reveal locking nut. Remove locking nut and remove wiper arm noting the position of the arm on the spline. If the arm is tight to remove you may have to resort to using a small pair of pulley drawers and carefully remove the arm.

Once you have got this far it is possible to lift the scuttle cover enough to see the power sounder and alarm horn. The power sounder is secured to a bracket which in turn is secured to the suspension post cover. I found it easier to remove the bracket with the sounder attached as in my case the plug connector was at the bottom of the unit.

After removing the two nuts holding the bracket it should be now possible to tip the unit to reveal the connector.

When i unplugged the connector from the unit my sounder alarm went off for approx 4 to 5 mins but eventually stopped. Wrap the connector with electrical tape and refit sounder. The rest is a reversal of the removal but i used a small ammount of anti sieze grease on the spline of the wiper arm to hopefully make removal of the arm, if needed in future, easier.

or see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90656.0 for an alternative scuttle removing guide.
