Contitech wheel barings
« on: 29 September 2011, 13:11:35 »

Anyone got these? I'm finding it impossible to remove all the play which is causing a knocking or "fuddering" over bumps. On the second one now. Has anyone had similar experience with this part?

If so has anyone returned them, complained or contacted the retailer ? Wondering what conti tech say.

Weve had them in the past, with no issue I can recall.

I'd be wary of buying them now from recent experiences.

don't know what to do about it - GM maybe ?

...... and Conti are about as good as you can get.

Front; With ABS; Hub Assy.    90486467    £134.00    £114.16    £101.01

or

Front; Saloon; Wheel Bearing Kit; Ø 74mm    90510542    £43.00    £36.55    £28.53

but how easy is that to do on its own?  guessing its a press jobby?

Fitting the bearing is normally the easy bit - 'judicious' use of a soft faced hammer or using a vice with a large socket - it's normally getting the old one out. If you have access to a stick welder a line of weld along the inside of the bearing 'outer' is usually enough to help it out of its seat.

Hence, I think, Mark's suggestion of collecting a few used hubs so we can have a few "we prepared earlier", avoiding messing about welding, pressing, etc. when there's an urgent need for one. :y

Ok so if I fit my new conti tech that's on the shelf, and send the one that was fitted to the car at Newent to Mark...?

Or would we be better sending them back to bypartsbuy and get the problem rectified.... Be a bloody miracle if that happens.

The way I see it it's either get the fault fixed via conti tech or modify them to work correctly....? Or find out exactly how hard it is to fit new races into the hub/abs assembly. But I gather the actual baring itself is as expensive as the whole conti tech part in the hub complete....? Although that's still cheaper than vx in "baring in the hub" price.

But isn't the point that the whole thing from contitech complete doesn't work? ;)

You're comparing the price of something that does work to something that doesn't. ;)

Like, for example, if I were to put Falkens on my car at £80 a corner, it'd be cheaper than... :-X

 ;)

Vx baring on its own works.  Conti tech in hub doesn't. Almost same price for each... Sorry Kev it's been a long day... Obviously I want my cake and eat it.

So are you saying accept ct barings don't work and pay more?
