Omega General Help / Re: Air Fliters.

The MAF has a very thin wire through the centre that is used by the ECU

It uses a well established hot-wire principle. A hot wire and an air temperature probe are mounted together in the inlet duct. The hotwire is maintained at 200°C hotter than the air temperature probe, and the current needed to maintain this temperature is connected to a precision resistor.

The principle is simple. The heated probe is cooled proportionally by the mass of air which passes it in the duct, so the current required to heat the probe varies according to the mass of the air passing through. From the voltage reading in the resistor the PCM can then assign an accurate measurement of the air flow and map the quantity of fuel to be emitted by the injectors

The oil from the filter "coats" the wire and stops it performing its job. It is EXCEEEDINGLY sensitive, so any contaminant is bad news.

I can't find an Omega piccy but this one, from a Ford Scorpio site gives some information that might be usefull

Thanks for answering :y :y

The original filter is large, enclosed and fed from a pipe leading from infront of the radiator so will get lots of cold air a K+N is open and situated inside the engine bay, OK you might be able to fit a pipe to direct air at the K+N but it will still suck loads of warm air. The other thing is the K+N is oiled and the oil will knacker your MAF sensor.
why does an oiled filter Knacker the MAF sensor? :-/

Cam cover gaskets
Green Sealent for front cam bearing cap
Black sealent for cam covers
Camshaft oil seals (may be possible to re-use but at least have a couple handy in case they are damaged during removal / installation.

May as well change cam belt and tensioners if it's getting close to "that time".

That should just about do it IIRC.

Kevin
the reason I'm changing the cams is i need to do the cover gaskets so i thought while I'm there i may as well :y

whats the difference between the to sealants and whats the damage to buy it?

how much for cam oil seals?

belt and tensioners arnt that old so im ok there :y

Thanks chaps.

Obviously upgrading makes all the difference. As yes at the moment it feels like a boat !.
Can understand why they uprated/lowered suspension and put 17" wheels on the MV6 !.

As it is, I do know of an engineering company that could possible do the job, probably plenty of beer money for them and their be happy enough.

Let you know how I get on.

Thanks for answering  :y

M

Bigger wheels here I come  :D
happy dayz :y :y :y :y

I'm  rolling on 235/40/18s its the best thing i ever did it makes the car feel the road more and less like being in a boat I'm using 20mm spacers all round and that makes for a better look there is no rubbing on these either but the spacers where needed to stop rubbing on the dampers :y :y :y

to have some custom precision machining done will cost you i work for an engineering company that make parts for the weapon systems on the euro fighter so i cant help you there as the cnc machines are all pre set programs running

if you do go for custom go to a small local machine shop and see if they will who knows you may be lucky
especially if you have all dimensions finish and tolerances drawn up of what you want and the material to be used it will need to be more than just a quick sketch on a note pad though :y

......
some of the item Ive fitted them to are so delicate after stress and crack detection that if you dropped it from about 30 mill to your desk just put it in the bin scarp plus when hard anodised this can affect it to so off it all goes again to be xray-ed for material defects and sample pieces are sent to check the rockwell hardness

They don't need to be delicate if they're painted Battle Ship Grey and are going to float!  ;D   ;D  ;D :y
absolutely ;D :y
these are the machines i work on to make these components
http://www.mazakusa.com/

:y :y :y Closest I've got to that is a digital read out.

Mazak ..... isn't that the 'monkey metal' they made Morris Minor (etc) tail lamps out of?  ;D ;D ;D
check the machine out at work pure genius
