its just a heat shield. on my v6 they were falling to pieces so i removed them and it passed its mot with no problem.

usual suspect is a leak at the condensor..........they corrode over time. get a local mobile ac man to do a leak test. mine was leaking at the bottom. bought and fitted a new one, same ac man vacuumed system and refilled. been ice cold since.
dont go to quick fit or any other cowboy merchants because they wont check for leaks.

caustic will eat away white metal bearing surfaces etc but wont damage metal per say.

had the aircon refilled after replacing the condensor yesterday. all properly done this time, not like shit fit do it. sniff tested and no leaks. ice cold now!!! result.

did cambelt kit and aircon condensor today and yesterday. lovely to hear it fire up after a nightmare getting the cams to line up properly, many times i had to remove the belt and start over again but got there in the end. getting aircon gassed up tomorrow afternoon so hopefully that'll be two jobs sorted now.

replaced the broken rear springs and fitted new rear shock absorbers this afternoon. 2 hour job due to one of the shock absorber top nuts refusing to budge so out came the grinder!!...all in all a nice easy job. rear end now sitting at the proper ride height and much better handling now. not bad for £100.

ground off all the rusty paint on my omega rear arch lips. down to clean metal, primed them then treated them to a good coating of black stone chip paint. should see them good for a couple of years 
new shockers and springs arrived in the post for the rear along with the laser v6 engine timing set i ordered in anticipation of this weekends cambelt change
just hope the weather is set fair.........loving my omega ownership so far and slowly getting her back to a good standard.

call out a local aircon guy. he will fill it with nitrogen to pressure test it. that way you can test the compressor and he will do a sniff/ultraviolet test for leaks.
had a guy out to check my omega, charged me £20 and detected a leak in the condensor radiator. ordered a new one from autoairconparts yesterday for£104 all in. busy weekend ahead fitting that and doing cambelt change!!!
