« on: 19 July 2011, 22:18:02 »

As the aircon on my vec has been out of use for approx 2 years,i am now wanting it working again. As there is no gas in the system though,is there anyway to test the compressor to see if aint seized without having the system full. :-/

call out a local aircon guy. he will fill it with nitrogen to pressure test it. that way you can test the compressor and he will do a sniff/ultraviolet test for leaks.
had a guy out to check my omega, charged me £20 and detected a leak in the condensor radiator. ordered a new one from autoairconparts yesterday for£104 all in. busy weekend ahead fitting that and doing cambelt change!!!

I would have thought that switching the engine on and then whilst pressing the aircon button, seeing or rather listening to the engine tone/rev counter and see if the rev's drop? Wont do much harm if its switched off rapidly i would have thought.

Andy B's point is that, with no gas in the system, the gas pressure switch will prevent the compressor clutch from engaging.  Safety feature to prevent the un-lubricated compressor from destroying itself.

I believe you can check that the compressor is not seized by applying 12V directly for a second or two.
