Welcome along....

Window prob - might be worth trying the old silicon spray up and down the guides (and a little down into the door if you can).

You've already sussed out how good this forum is!  Welcome along.

I guess it's the same for most cars - whatever problem yours has got, someone else has had the same problem and can help you in some way.

Hi and welcome.  Sounds like you'll need your grease monkey skills.  BTW I'm never sure whether that term is supposed to be insulting to monkeys or to vehicle mechanics ;)

PS You've only got to try 10000 codes to get the right one on the radio.  On a slightly more helpful note - sounds as though you prob. don't have an owner's manual for the car.  I know you can always ask people on this forum, but I've made good use of mine, which I got off of fleabay for about £3.

Welcome. I'm fairly new myself - this site has been invaluable already (thanks again guys).
Don't be shy if you've got a question.... even if you are up to your elbows in grease half way through a job and you get stuck , get a cup of tea, log on and the chances are someone will be able to help you finish the job with some practical advice.

oh yes, and enjoy the gentle humour that surfaces now and again :)

..... but I can tell from your post that actually, you are bright, and not as old as you used to be :)

Welcome along.

I presume you have a switch for the LPG?  Does it still feel sluggish on petrol?
(Depends what you're used to - it's never going to match an equivalent BMW for pace, though)

Hello and welcome to the best Omega Forum on the Net :y

I think you'll find the word 'Omega' is superfluous in that sentence!

Don't worry about asking more than you answer - your time will come, I'm sure.  BTW, I've got a little problem with the flange on my ball-cock... ;)

Don't know if you've proceeded with your purchase yet, but I would advise that you fully check the 30k miles reading in whatever way you can (old MOTs, a service history that hasn't been doctored, talk to the previous owner if you can).

... and welcome to probably the friendliest owners' forum on the web (IMHO), and enjoy an extremely comfortable, smooth, easy-to-drive car.

I've had my Omega for 2 months, and ffcgary1 is so right!

But at least you know that you are not alone.

Welcome, and Good Luck.

Hi

Davlad - re: my airbag light, what's this diagnostic technique that you refer to - "hoovering"??? I haven't done that on any of my previous cars. Do you have to do it very often with these?  ;)

And thanks Theboy, but I'm on the Essex/London border , so a bit of a treck. But thanks for your advice, one and all.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello All - what a friendly site!

Just bought an Omega (2.2 CD auto, 2002) last week.

Have owned BMWs for some years (ran my last one to 210k miles), and there are a few differences I've noticed already - let's be honest, the price I paid for it is a key difference.  But essentially it's a roomy, comfortable, rear wheel drive car that I feel I could drive all day.

I've had a quick look around this site and really like the 'feel' of it.

Whether it will help me solve all the minor niggles that my car has got remains to be seen, but I've got a bit of a steer on the airbag light that I'll pursue at the weekend.
Failing that I have called into my local Vauxhall dealer who says he'll do half an hour diagnosis for £45 and see if they can sort it within that time.

So I look forward to being a member here.

PS was it my imagination, or did the Vauxhall service manager turn his nose up when I told him it was an Omega that I had just bought??? Presumably because he knew I hadn't bought it from a Vauxhall dealer, let alone his dealership, as they don't sell S/H ones any more.... or was it pity - I really wasn't sure!

Somehow I think we might see you back in Omega Owners land sometime in the future, Miggy's are brilliant family cars after all  :)[/quote]

Thank you all for your good wishes.  But I'm afraid that until I discover an oil well in my back garden, getting anothe mig is unlikely.  Like most of you, I regard 2.2L as a fairly modest engine, but according to the official figures, CO2 emissions are 243 g/km which will = £430 VED next year. My new 2nd hand C-max is 151 g/km = £170 or thereabouts.  And in the mean time, I'm getting 52 mpg diesel (equiv. to say 47 mpg petrol given the price differential). So I'm saving £loads, which I now need to, what with the twins (1 boy, 1 girl) and a wife who will only be working part-time after next year, if at all.
You get the picture....

Cheers,

In case you're wondering, the subject is a quote from the dolphins in Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy when they eventually left our planet, having trained us to feed them by rewarding us with tricks!

Anyway, what I really mean is that I've just got rid of my Omega after an eventful year of ownership, so will be leaving now.

It was a comfortable experience in the driver's seat, but uncomfortable as an owner!  It suffered almost all of the typical problems, and I had to have a new head gasket done (bloke who refurbed the head for me said it was probably the worst he'd seen).  Exhaust manifold leaking, driver's door crack of doom, blocked heater matrix, expansion tank just about to crack around the neck, needles to say the aircon didn't get cold.

Due to just having twins, I've had to get a newer, lower mileage, more economical and more reliable (hopefully) estate car with ISOFIX fittings.  But I'm missing the comfortable ride already.

So MANY THANKS to those of you who helped me out - this is truly the best owner's forum on the net.  I may still wander in and out from time to time, if that's OK with you all, as I enjoy the banter.

But cheerio for now.....

Alan

PS If anyone offers you a grey/green Omega in the Slough area, don't touch  it with a bargepole
