Omega General Help / How to fix passesnger air cold?
« on: 02 April 2011, 16:57:54 »
Hi, the passenger heat on my 99 3.0 Elite is permanently cold. I had a look at the how to posted previously but I don't recognise any of the descriptions so I've been following the instructions in the Haynes manual. However, having removed the glove box and wiring harness tray, I'm about to remove the air duct pipe that goes to the top left air vent. I've pulled it back but still cannot see anything that resembles the cover panel. I can, however, see to vaccum type servos with black/blue rubber hoses, one of which goes to the passenger top left air vent. Can anyone shed any light?

Cheers

The coolant bridge is very easy to remove but there is a pipe exposed once the bridge is removed. You need to remove two pipes that go from the oil filter housing to the oil cooler and this will allow you to more easliy access the nuts holding the coolant pipe that comes out of the back of the engine. These are areally small (I think 8mm spanner. This pipe comes out of the rear of the block and around the side above the manifold.

I used a 20" extention for the downpipe nuts and it was very easy to access with the car on jacks/ramps.

I did not create a guide unfortunately but I have done this side too if you need any specific help. The worst part for me was trying to undo the bolts that hold the water pipe at the back of the engine. Skinny fingers help here!

Omega General Help / Part number
« on: 27 September 2010, 17:35:15 »
Hi everyone
t
Can anyone confirm a part number for me please? It's the lead that goes from the battery positive terminal to the alternator - I have got 9173279 with an ident of JA9 from VX but the description is a bit too vauge to be sure.

Cheers

Sounds like some teeth have slipped and now a piston is hitting the valve(s) as you turn the engine. Have you got a timing tool from the cambelt kit? You might need to take off the belt and carefully get the engine back to TDC.

On a related note, I might try and make a keyhole camera gadget that can be inserted into the spark plug hole to see if the valve is contacting with the piston. Usefull tool?

I need a set of rear springs for the auto levelling suspension but cannot get them anywhere. Tried KYB but they only do the non levelling ones. VX said they cost £200 - anyone know where I can get some at a decent price?

Evening Guys
Is it possible to change the exhaust manifold on the passage side to my 1998 25 v6 with engine in suit, i have heard its possible but hard due to lack of space, the reason is its started to blow mostly when cold, checked second injection rubber connections to main pipe, all seem ok  :-? :-?
Its given the same sound as one of the rubber connection has come of, lack of speed when cold as well  :-/ :-/

Iwouldn't do it in your suit mate!  ;D ;D ;D ;D If you don't do it in situ it's not too bad a job but just very expensive in parts! I think next time I would try jacking the engine up as said above :y

Omega General Help / Hmm... How to crack a nut?
« on: 15 April 2009, 10:44:08 »
The bottom nut on my shock absober is spinning - obviously must have over tightened it! I was going to get a nut splitter and remove it but the nut is too big (24mm whereas the splitter goes up to 22mm).

I've got through 2 cold chisels and not made much of an impact so far. I thought about releasing the spring pressure slightly to try and push the nut up while I unscrew but not sure if that will work. The only other thing that comes to mind is an angle grinder - more money!!

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Re: Wheel nuts advice
« on: 14 April 2009, 19:45:16 »
Thanks guys! (and Lizzie Zoom ;D)

Got the wheel nut remover from Argos. Brilliant tool - made light work of the wheel nuts. Got the wheel nut removal socket too, but alas, the locking nut had a spinning outer shell. Sorted eventually. Used a small cold chisel to strip off the outer shell, then took Loo-Knee's advice and hammered on a 17mm impact socket. Soon had it off. Took me 45 minutes to get the nut out of the socket and then did the same on the second wheel.

The guy in the garage told me that the locking nuts I had are around 10 years old so I would not be able to get a new key, so I got a new set, and they are really cool. It's got a shape like a butterfly on it ;D I'll make sure I keet the key number because I don't think the socket trick will work on these little gems!

Anyway, used everyone's advice so cheers!

Pop down to your local argos, and buy yourself a wheel nut remover that you plug into your fag lighter, they are brilliant, and i wouldent leave home without one now.I think they are about £40,and are made by rac. These are alot less hassle when removing wheel nuts, because it always fits square on wheel nut, which eliminates rounding off your bolts.
Could not find this but they do have an inpact wrench which I've reserved now. Will get this and the locking nut remover tomorrow - it'ss be just like Christmas ;D
