Omega General Help / Odd happenings with sunroof!
« on: 17 February 2012, 12:40:42 »
Has anyone had odd goings on with their electric sunroof?
I was driving along the other day and all of a sudden the sunroof tilted open, then about ten seconds later closed again! Have i got a ghost??? Ive tried doing the relearn sequence but this has made no difference and has done this strange behaviour several times now.
Any ideas? I could accept a shorting connection but that wouldnt close it again surely?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Checking an alternator
« on: 07 February 2012, 22:34:46 »
Does anyone know how to check out an alternator for correct operation off the car?
Ive just fitted a replacement from a scrappy to get car going but i think looking at it now old one only needed internal contact cleaning but i dont want to refit only to find its still knackered.
Only reason id like to change is scrappy one has a noisy bearing (fussy i know)

Omega General Help / Poor fuel consumption baffling me
« on: 30 January 2012, 21:16:34 »
Having now changed from a 3.0 MV6 1998 manual estate to a 2.6 Auto 2002 estate I thought fuel consumption would improve a little but no! MV6 gave between 25 to 38 mpg but the newer car gives 19 to 28 mpg! Ive cleaned out all breathers, changed plugs, fuel & air filters. No codes logged either. Any ideas? Would an oil change to both auto box and engine be worth a try as looking at other items theyve not been done in a while?

Omega General Help / Re: knock at rear when going over bumps
« on: 30 January 2012, 21:11:49 »
All becomes clear!!!! Ive done a test on the self levelling suspension today and find only the passenger side pumps up with air being expelled out the bottom of the drivers side one. With assistance bouncing the car whilst holding offending shock changes note of the knock. So two new shocks now ordered albeit not self levelling ones!!!

Thanks for response. It was an E14 (which I already had) but bunged up with grit/rust/crap etc so needed a bit of persuading on! All swapped over and I took the opportunity to fit the new knock sensor as well so all good.

Omega General Help / Re: Low fuel light
« on: 04 January 2012, 13:26:10 »
Thanks all, for your inputs. Ive now convinced myself it illuminates with whitish light all the rest of the dials so all is well. It just looked confusing as i had no reference as bulb gone for backlight on temp gauge side as that obviously is a similar setup.

ok so if it should only come on when low, am I correct in thinking there must be an electrical fault if it comes on at half brightness only when lights turned on? Is it a simple shorting contact setup in the level sensor or does it go via the ECU?

Omega General Help / Low fuel light

Can anyone tell me if my low fuel (petrol pump) light by fuel gauge shuold illuminate dimly with lights on?
It doesnt come on in the daytime and fuel guage is just starting to get to the red area - trip computer reckonsa 35 miles left which makes sense. once down to 30 miles the light glows brightly as id expect lights on or not.
Thoughts people please

Can someone tell me what size Torx socket is needed to remove Alternator and tensioner pulley assembly above it please on a 2.6 V6 Estate Elite 2002. Ive got a set of torx sockets but they dont go big enough so want to buy the right one for this job only.

« on: 22 December 2011, 15:54:43 »
Seems all the faults previous left me with have to do with the word knock!
I'm still trying to find the source of my rear knocking after going over bumps - its doing my head in!

Update - looks like its caught on one of the belt at some point as previous owner has bound wire with insulation tape. Is there a simple way to check continuity?
Is it difficult to replace?
Next question has anyone got a spare sensor please?

« on: 13 December 2011, 17:16:41 »
Ive just done the "pedal trick" on my vehicle to see why the spanner light is on and get a 0325 code coming back which I believe to be bank 1 knock sensor.
Can someone tell me what I may need to do to fix the problem please.
