Erm I'm not sure where you buy your engines from but I scoured the country for this one it's not the cheapest but it's very low miles. I've had prices from £340 to £1200 for an engine complete with ancillaries. The price for the new
Cambelt is supply and fit, you must remember I am not a mechanic and do not have anywhere to keep the car. It may not need it doing they are going to check it over when it arrives. It has been a complete nightmare and leaving it stored up was not an option, when I've stored cars before I've found it to be more detrimental to the car as other faults appear. This is the cleanest solution and means I'll have a good car with a good engine when it's completed.

We're looking at £500 for labour and £150 for the cambelt kit if needed. The engine was £450 from a place near Doncaster. The garage reckon its worth saving as its in good nick and the new engine has only done 34k.

A quick update I've sourced a low mileage engine and the local garage have agreed to fit it and do a cambelt change and keep the costs down for me as it seems they are fans of the car and couldn't bear the idea of it being binned off!

Sorry if I've trod on any toes!

Thank you for the offer of help. I think I'm going to have to sell or scrap the car cash in the tax and try and buy something else. The car is in good condition barring the seized engine. It's currently outside a garage in Littlehampton, West Sussex and understandably they don't want it there forever.

Admin Edit: Sorry to be a party pooper in your times of need, but we have strict rules on selling cars here

Bought privately vendor doesn't want to know. Even tried telling me some sob story that his next car has broken down too.

Garage tell me engine and crank are totally solid but all belts are ok.

I live in Stafford car is in sussex as im down visiting family

I have no place to change an engine it's in Sussex. I've had quotes of £350 for a recon engine but awaiting a price on labour only. I'm scared I will get it fixed and then something else goes wrong as I really won't have any money left!

The news is not good the engine is totally seized though the mechanic couldn't say why without spending further time or money on it. The vendor sympathises of course but is refusing to do any more than that. The garage reckon they could supply and fit a new engine for £2000! Now I've made enquiries and can get an engine for £350 and he said its 1.5 days labour to fit so god knows where he is getting the engine from HARRODS?!

I'm at a bit of a crossroads here chaps and would appreciate your input.

OOF indeed

Its broken already!

I bought the car down here in West Sussex as I am visiting family. Mum wanted to go out in it so we went over to Lewes, had this mad idea about chippy tea!

Never got there as the car lost power and all lights came on near Falmer got the car off the main road (not easy without the PAS) and rang the AA.

Being a busy road (someone died there recently) he did not want to spend too long looking at it, he reckoned it could be a dead alternator, a fault with air con compressor that somehow bypassed the clutch or a seized engine.

Its been towed to a garage that Mum knows well and hopefully they will let me know tomorrow, needless to say the Vendor has not been in contact.

Hopefully its something straightforward (and cheap) as I really enjoyed driving it!

New to the forum and the brand. Just replaced my Rover 45 with an 03 plate 2.2 CD saloon. Always liked the cars and this one came up for sale at a bargain price so decided to give it a whirl! I do have some pics but I'm on an iPhone so it's easier said than done but will upload them at some point!
