Omega General Help / Re: Brake squeal
« on: 12 September 2007, 19:22:14 »
Hello Mambafia, If you have a small amount of copper based grease applied to the back of the brake pads it should help remove and more importantly quieten your squealy brakes. This is not always done as part of a brake pad change so this problem does occur frequently. By the back of the brake pads i mean the non friction side(not the part that touches the brake disc.). In some cases anti-squeal shims can be bought from main dealer but sometimes are already incorporated in genuine dealer brake pads. Hope this might be of some help to you.

Omega General Help / SMOKEY & THE BAND AID.
« on: 06 September 2007, 19:29:00 »
Hi folks. I hope that some of you technical Geniuses can help me put some life back into my old miggy.
I am proud but disheartened owner of a silver 2001 2.2 DTi Executive.
About 2 weeks ago on my way to work i overtook a couple of vehicles in 3rd gear at about 75mph and 30 secs down the road the orange management light lit and the car immediately lost power and pulled itself to almost a halt. It filled the road with billows of smoke and from there onwards would only rev to approx 1200 rpm. It has remained that way since. I cannot get a straight answer from the local dealer as to its cause but am told it is vacuum related. If any of you have came across this problem or can point me in the proper direction to look i would be most greatful indeed.
I was told to check every one of the vacuum pipes for cracks or damage but when spraying an aerosol injector cleaner around the engine bay no sign of air leaks are showing up by a pickup in idle or anything thus leading me to think there are no air/vacuum leaks.
I leave it for the moment in your capable minds. Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope i can return the favour some day.

Omega General Help / Re: Wheel wont come off!!!
« on: 29 August 2007, 20:40:01 »
Always been a common Vauxhall/opel complaint. make sure the car is well supported with axis stands firstly! Then remove wheel nuts and sit on ground facing the wheel. Place one foot on either side of the tyre and with flat of the foot kick the tyre inwards  swithcing the impact from left side to the right and back again until its grip is broken. Once the wheel has been loosened and removed, clean the hub face with a piece of sandpaper and apply a little copper grease to prevent future problems of the same kind.  :y

Newbie Welcome Area / can you help me? please.
« on: 25 August 2007, 18:25:22 »
Hello to all at the O.O.F.
This is my 1st login on this forum and have little or no experience of how it works. I am a 33yr old male with my second miggy. it is a 2001 silver elegance model 2.2 DTi. It is a wonderful car but last week developed an annoying fault which i have yet to solve.
This is where you guys come in ........ I hope.
After overtaking a vehicle on my way to work the car which was in third gear at approx 70mph lost power immediately and filled the road with smoke. The orange management light lit in the dash and the car dragged itself to a halt. It will start and drive but will not rev over approx 1500rpm and is very smokey. I have changed the fuel filter and tried another airflow meter off a 2.0l DTi vectra but to no avail.
If anyone can suggest a solution to this problem or has experienced this before i would be very grateful indeed. The daignostic readout only describes a major fault but does not give any direct information as to the cause of the problem.
I really want to try and sort this out as i miss my miggy which is just parked in the drive at moment and i just cant afford the extortionate prices the main dealer would expect to sort it out.
I hope you guys can be of help as i was delighted to discover your forum while browsing for solutions.
thank you.
