Omega General Help / Re: Unusual fault?

Before I go spending on a new ABS ECU, would this also cause the power steering to fail as it does at exactly the same time?

Seems i've given you guys a real puzzler  ;). Tyres are the same as the rear and I cant see any fuses blown. The guy doing the tyres had to use a big hammer to remove the locking wheel nuts as the key broke but he didnt appear that rough. Nothing simple ever happens to me  :'(

Omega General Help / Unusual fault?
« on: 20 April 2009, 21:09:26 »
Hi.

It may be coincidence but after getting two new front tyres fitted I was driving along the motorway when the ABS and TC lights came on, at the same time the speedo needle dropped to zero and the power steering seemed to cut out. This now happens randomly for between 5 minutes to 20 minutes but usualy corrects itself eventually. Any ideas guys?

Omega General Help / Re: Thinking about LPG conversion
« on: 09 March 2008, 17:37:19 »
I have a 2000(W) 2.5 V6 CDX with LPG conversion that's got 180k on the clock, It has been nothing short of excellent. There is no noticable loss in power and you simply dont notice the changeover from petrol (about 30 seconds after starting from cold). £10 of petrol (used for starting) has lasted me about 3 months so far. Forget filling stations for gas, look up you local Calor Gas centre they charge 42p - 45p a litre. I do 140 miles to work and back daily and the savings are fantastic. As gas is cleaner running than petrol your oil/exhaust etc last longer. So you need to keep your ignition efficent - re-gapping or even replacing plugs is no big deal, HT leads have never caused me a problem. Don't debate the issue, if you're keeping the car and do any significant mileage at all, GO GAS.

It doesn't cure your problem but mine has been a wee bit rough idling since the temp dropped <-3. Lets see if it improves with the weather!!

Omega General Help / Re: Severe Oil Leak on V6 2.5
« on: 13 December 2007, 22:06:19 »
Some good advice there folks. Much appreciated. I cant see any on the sides of the engine only underneath. I will take some time this weekend and look a bit harder especially at the back of the engine. For info it is an Auto. I do about 120 miles daily, mostly motorway. Doubt it's important but i'm running on LPG. Like I say, i'll look harder and let you know what I find.

Hi hotel21,

Plug holes look clean and cam covers dry, that was my first thought too. My poor wording. Its just dripping under the engine and being sprayed back by the wind when driving. Mechanic crawled under and tightened a few things but says he cant see where its coming from. Using about a litre a week. Coolant is fine, no muck in header.

Ta.

Omega General Help / Severe Oil Leak on V6 2.5
« on: 10 December 2007, 23:04:48 »
Hi all. My 2000(W) 2.5 V6 has sprung a hellish oil leak somewhere at the bottom of the engine towards the gearbox. I am certain it's engine oil not transmission fluid and its being srayed all over the underside and stinks when it burns. I cant for the life of me see where its coming from. Anyone know usual weak spots?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5TD little acceleration
« on: 10 November 2007, 16:09:29 »
It's taken me months to solve just this problem om my TD but I have. Firstly - a naff mechanic failed to reattach the air pipe from the air filter to the turbo, this by far made the biggest difference. If this happens then you hear the turbo sucking hard but as its not through the pipe the air flow sensor detects no flow and reduces the fuel supply. Next was the fuel pump in the tank (accessable through the boot) - 2 things here, it was blocked with gunge and the pipes to it were kinked a bit. Lastly, the gunge from the tank messed up the fuel filter so it needed replaced. The good thing is that none of these are expensive and every one made a significant difference.

Good luck

Thanks mate, i'll give it a look but I reccon it will be the original. When you say the mod will kill the existing box is this an always thing or only if I drive it hard? Economy is more important to me than performance and i’ve grown out of the boy racer mentality (well I think so). Anyway, if you know the M8 you’ll know it’s no race track.

Hi TB. It is an auto but I dont know if it's an AR35 box or not (I doubt it). Is there an easy way to tell?

Omega General Help / 2.5 TD CDX - Performance mods?
« on: 21 October 2007, 21:35:43 »
Hi,

Having made the crazy decision to keep my Omega TD rather than buy something else I am looking for ways to improve it. The car is spotless for it's age and most tings work (now) but i've always found the power and economy very disapointing. I’ve seen some mention of chipping in this forum and wonder of this is what I need! I do about 500 – 600 miles a week (Edinburgh to Glasgow so motorway). Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. I sometimes wish i’d kept my 2.5 V6!! Are there any other performance MOD's might keep me happy?

Cheers
