Omega General Help / Resolved !
« on: 28 January 2010, 21:17:20 »
Some time ago I asked on here about a particular problem with my 2.5td estate. The engine would run for 5 -10 mins then the throttle pedal would just kind of die and eventually the engine would stop.
It turns out that there was an alien being living in the lift pump filter ! Was a nasty slug like thing that did not like white spirit at all. Cleaned it out and the car is fine now.
I think that the alien was being sucked up into the pump inlet and the pump was overheating and some kind of cut out was operating inside the pump.
Anyway that's it and thanks to the person who did the lift pump write up  :y

Do you know if codes are stored after the battery has been disconnected ?

What fault codes do you have showing ?

Just one "general heater plug fault" that would explain the starting problem then  ::)

Omega General Help / 2.5td throttle

Can anyone help ?
The throttle will work for a few minutes and then stops, nothing at all. there is no idling either, the engine then dies.
Thanks

Omega General Help / Strange throttle response
« on: 17 May 2009, 11:16:06 »
I have temporarily taken my 2.5TD estate car off of the road but have continued to run the engine at regular intervals.
A couple of weeks ago I left it ticking over but it just kind of petered out and died, suspecting a low fuel level I put in about 20 litres and it eventually started up again, but now the throttle is not working properly, sometimes it will rev as normal other times there is nothing and then after about 5 seconds it will either very slowly pick up or die completely.
The battery has been off to re-charge.
I have done the paper clip test and the two codes read were:

49 heater plugs general
92 cruise control. My car does not have cruise control  :o

I can see it would be possible to confuse the codes so have checked and double checked. They are correct.
An odd gurgling noise can be heard from the rear of the car when the engine dies, I think it is coming from the fuel tank.
All of the injector bleed off braided pipes are perished and weeping.
Can anyone help ?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5td thermostat

Thanks, I have just changed the waterpump....... that lives in the same place then  ::)
Just bled some air from the system and it seems fine now, any idea where the air could be coming from as this is the third time I've had to do it since changing the pump. Headgasket is ok, it's been checked.

Omega General Help / 2.5td thermostat
« on: 17 July 2008, 08:26:26 »
Hi, can anyone tell me where it lives and what it is like to change please.
The engine is running hot and the only way to keep the temp. down is by putting the heater on full, my suspicion is that the thermostat is stuck closed as the radiator does not get warm at all.
Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Slipping auto
« on: 19 April 2008, 20:32:44 »
If it's low I will just top it up for now, can anyone recommend a fluid spec. to use  and would 1 litre be enough for a top up ?

Sounds like it needs a fluid change and filter as the oil may be old and low in level :-/
As simple as that :y how do I check the level ?

Omega General Help / Slipping auto
« on: 19 April 2008, 20:05:09 »
Whilst reversing with a car on a trailer my auto box was slipping, the front wheels of the car were in a hollow and I could not get the car and trailer to go backwards (trailer brake disabled) Once I pulled forward a little and then selected reverse it was o.k. The gearbox was cold. I can deal with some slip in reverse but is it likely to do it in forward gears too ? i.e does it have a separate reverse band ?
Thanks

It's an older '95 M
Would it be worth fitting a fan though ?
Yes, esp if you can control manually ;)
Probably the easiest way to do it as there are no wires already in place.
What do you think the blown fuse is for ?

Curiouser and curiouser.......
Blown fuse but definately no fan  :-? or no wires leading to it  :-?
Is there an oil cooler fan, could this fuse be for that fan instead ?
Would it be worth retro-fitting an intercooler fan ?
Thanks everyone
