Omega General Help / Auxiliary belt strangeness ...
« on: 19 June 2010, 19:09:18 »
Hope someone can help with this. I've recently had the crank pulley replaced on my 2.2DTi, and while I was at it had the garage replace the belt tensioner and belt. All seemed well for a few hundred miles, but then the aux. belt snapped. Replaced with another one, as (long story short) the garage needed in the interim to replace the crank oil seal, and the first aux. belt had become oil-soaked. Now this newest (only 10 miles or so) aux. belt appears to be getting ready to snap/strip all its rubber out ... and I'm wondering, what the hell is going on?

Could the tensioner be too tight? The pulleys all seem perfectly aligned, so not sure it can be that ... v. strange, it is.

From the way the tensioner tightens things up, it seems that there's no adjustment possible, it just tensions according to an internal spring or damper.

Anyone any idea about this? I'm in the process of selling the car, but don't want to sell someone something they'll end up hating me for. Karma and all that stuff.

Many thanks for any pointers on this one.

Agree with original poster - up to a point. I've also just done this job, and it's very straightforward. I found that it was much easier by far - given the dirt-free life they lead - to remove the upper shock mounting bolts rather than the lowers. There is actually no problem with knocking the diff carrier nuts out of place - they're actually machined into two plates (one plate each side, two nuts/holes on each), and they can easily be brought back into line if you disturb them. You won't need spring compressors, either: the whole job can be controlled on the jack under the diff and under each suspension arm.

The garage is right about air getting into the system, but probably not about the cause. Much more likely to be the injector seals. I did mine a bit ago after identical symptoms to yours, and the starting problem is now cured. Check this out for a how-to:

Phew. Nice to know! Thanks mate.

Typical of me, I've bought the proper Vx pin-locking set for over a hundred quid. Just to make sure. To make sure I'm an idiot, probably.

Long story short, I changed the injector seals on my 2.2 diesel, followed directly by changing the turbo (which was knackered). The car runs fine, but just after I did the turbo swap, the exhaust was emitting blue smoke (even at idle). After 50 or so miles I can no longer see smoke ... so does this mean the problem has gone away? It's worrying to think that there's an underlying issue that will cause damage down the line somewhere. It might or might not be pertinent, but I used the How To from this forum on changing the injector seals - ie, not using the Vauxhall tool for retiming the engine, just marks on the cam and cam pulley - and I read somewhere that blue smoke from the exhaust on a diesel could be caused by injection pump being out (which i suppose could be a result of cam being out by a very tiny amount) ... any ideas? Should I be worried?

Omega General Help / Replacing Garrett Turbocharger

hi all - although I joined last year, this is my first post. Am looking for a how-to guide for replacing the turbo on my Omega (which is knackered, whistling and graunching and spewing smoke everywhere!)

Any tips, urls gratefully appreciated.

Ok. How about carpets? I currently have a beige interior, so it might be wise to change the carpet too. You can give us a bell on 07832 065967 to discuss.

Will it fit in a 2001 car? If so, I'll have it.
