Omega General Help / Re: Should my fan be doing this ?
« on: 14 December 2006, 21:17:19 »
My Vx dealer says they can't reset it and it needs to have the control mechanism replaced.

It is under Network-Q Warranty, so it will be replaced for free, but I'm wondering if it really needs it.

Omega General Help / Should my fan be doing this ?
« on: 05 December 2006, 00:52:48 »
Just bought my Omega 2.2 CDX auto (2003). No owners manual (dealer is sorting this out) hence this question.

The temperature controls/fan/aircon all seem to work in a fairly logical manner until I get to below 20 c. When I start to drop below this temperatue, the fan goes up a speed level for each degree lowered and cannot then be altered until it reaches 'Lo' and then I can adjust the speed of the fan again. It make no difference if the aircon is off or on (econ) or if recirculating.

To illustrate :

temperature set to 20c (and above) - fan speed set to lowest setting (indicated as lowwest setting on display) - nice and quiet - fan speed can be altered at will
temperature set to 19c - fan goes up one noise level (still indicating lowest on display) - slightly obtrusive noise - fan speed cannot be altered
temperature set to 18c - fan goes up another noise level (still indicating lowest on display) - obtrusive noise - fan speed cannot be altered
temperature set to 17c - fan goes up another noise level (still indicating lowest on display) - very obtrusive noise - fan speed cannot be altered
temperature set to 16c - fan stays at high noise level (still indicating lowest on display) - very obtrusive noise - fan speed cannot be altered
temperature set to 'Lo' - fan stays at high noice level (indicates full on display) - very obtrusive noise - fan speed can be altered

Is this supposed to happen ? I can't use it below 19c because it make too much noise. That's probably alright in winter, but in my previous car, I use the 16-19 range quite heavily when the weather is warmer/milder ?

Anybody have any ideas ?

Omega General Help / lpg - loss of a spare legal ?
« on: 23 November 2006, 16:38:49 »
I'm just about to join the Omega owners club with a 2.2 CDX.

I'm still planning to go lpg, possibly with a toroidal tank, but I have 2 questions :

1.    Is is it illegal not to carry a spare wheel, and just use an aerosol ?

2.    Is it really impossible to change the bulbs in the n/s light cluster if a toroidal tank is fitted ? Can you fit led bulbs that should rarely fail ? (and where from ?)

Thanks,

Omega General Help / Gearing in auto boxes - mph per 1000 rpm
« on: 18 November 2006, 22:43:46 »
Can anyone tell me what the mph per 1000 rpm in the 2.2, 2.6 and 3.2 auto saloons

Failing that, if an owner of each of the 3 different engines (auto) can tell what revs they are doing at 70 mph in top gear (4th on the auto), I can work it out.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: MV6 Spec?

laidback66,
well, it has certainly ruled out the Sport.

I probably won't go for the MV6 either, because I want comfort and refinement. I don't like the sound of the stiffer suspension combined with the lower profile tyres. I had a bad experience with a Rover 620Ti once that sounded like a rock concert (even at 40 mph) due to the tyre roar.

I heard recently that most family cars, despite all the advances in technology, are noisier that cars 15 years ago due to the tyre roar induced by the much wider, lower profile tyres that are used on even very modest cars these days.

Just in case someone could make use of my trawling the forum and the web, I have compiled the following spec. differences between the late Omega models (note - significant differences only). They are all collected or anecdotal, so I claim no responsibility for their accuracy. If anyone spots any errors or omissions (wait for the deluge !), then let me know (or even better - edit it yourself).

The table was a real pain to put in - if anyone else can tidy it up it's fine by me.

Of particular note is the reduced specification of the sport model compared to the MV6.

Omega General Help / Re: MV6/Sport comfort and road noise

Tunnie,
           why do you say
Quote
The MV6 is an excellent blend of smooth ride & excellent handling, but avoid the 2.2 Sport.

I assume that the Sport is the same as the MV6 but without the V6 !

Is your recommendation to avoid the 2.2 Sport just because the 2.2 in a Omega doesn't make it particulary fast, and therefore not very sporty ?

Omega General Help / MV6/Sport comfort and road noise
« on: 05 November 2006, 19:33:53 »
Can anyone tell me if the MV6/Sport (2.2) with stiffer suspension and larger diameter wheels with lower profile (& wider ?) tyres has a harsher ride, or more importantly, increased road noise (which I particularly can't tolerate).

Thanks

Are the two cruise control switches at the end of the indicator stalk labelled 'S' and 'R' ?

Unfortunately, I'm based in the North West - Liverpool/Manchester area

I've haven't got a Vauxhall at the moment, but in a previous lifetime with a Cavalier SRi and then a Carlton 2.2 CDi auto, I learned not to be very impressed with my local Vauxhall dealers.

Can anyone recommend any good ones up North ?

I'm looking for an automatic.

Just to confirm if I understand you correctly.

I can add cruise control to say a post 2001 2.2 CD auto, by replacing the indicatior stalk with one that has cruise buttons (from either a scrappy or new from a vauxhall dealer), and then all I have to do is go that a Vauxhall dealer and get it enabled ?

Without sounding too naive, will they do this, and how much will it cost ?

Thanks.

Omega General Help / Versions of Omega with Cruise as standard ?
« on: 04 November 2006, 17:22:51 »
Can anyone tell me which models of Omega (2001 onwards) have cruise control as standard (if any) ?

Failing that, was it part of a specific option pack ?

Can it be retrofitted and at what cost, either by DIY or specialist ?

Finally,  on the standard factory fitted version, how is it actuated i.e. button (on steering wheel ?) or stalk on steering column (dedicated to cruise or shared with other functions) ? Does a light come on on the dashboard when cruise is on ? I'm asking this last question because I've rung several garages to ask if their particular car has cruise, and then they (live on the phone) get into the car, start it up, and start playing with all the switches and stalks to see if any of them flash up a 'cruise' light. Needless to say, I haven't found one yet ...

Thanks in advance.
