and do it when the exhaust is cold ;D

Thnks everyone for the advice. Unfortunately I never took the advice of the last post and 3 days later still have the burn to prove it! :'(

Also unfortunate is that it made no difference!!  >:(  The only thing I was slightly confused with is the positioning of the switch before tightening the bolts. I had the car in neutral and put the switch back into the cover in the same position that I removed. Is that right?

Anyway, where does this leave me? I am know wondering if its even the selector switch thats to blame!!

Help!! :-[

Omega General Help / Auto Gearbox Selector Switch fault
« on: 10 January 2009, 11:21:27 »
This is EXACTLY the problem I'm having. i.e. flahing lights, etc on gear lever. I've just had it diagnosed this morning as a faulty gear selector switch. (£250 + VAT) :'(

I'm interested to read that maybe its not faulty and just needs cleaned  :P

Can you give some advice? Do I have to lower gear box and take off or is there shortcuts?

Got it! Mounting bolt and just pull it out!

Bolt for crank shaft fiddly but pretty easy!

Just a quick follow up.

Would the egr valve be worth looking at? If so, where would I find it! And what about the MAF?

Hi all,

I've got more updates on this problem which is still not sorted! Please help!

The car has trouble starting. Almost certainly fuel related. It starts almost immediately but spluttering. When you press the accelerator it conks out unless you ease it in gently. This lasts for a few minutes (i guess until the engine heats up) then all is fine. Although it lacks power when out driving - not considerably. It will still cruise along at 70.

Anyway, I had it plugged in and have a list of codes for you to look at. Since these codes were taken I have replaced coil pack, crankshaft sensor and post cat lambda - no difference.

P0170 Fuel Correction (bank1 malfunction)
P0036 Oxygen Sensor Heater (bank 1 sensor 2)
P0700 Transmission Control System
P0650 Malfunction Indicator Control Circuit
P0141 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (bank 1 sensor 2)

Any pointers appreciated!

Omega General Help / Car starting/running problem

Hopefully this should be a simple one for you guys to answer! I serviced the car two months ago including new plugs, oil/air filter. I accidently drained the battery at the same time (maybe related).
Since then the car starts fine but then immediately starts to cough and splutter for approx 1 minute - then fine. This happens whenever the car has been left for approx 2 hours or more. I initially thought coilpack and replaced - I was wrong. Problem still there.

Help!

PS. Does paperclip test work on my car. I'm sure I read somewhere that it does not.

Omega General Help / Re: camshaft sensor
« on: 19 June 2009, 15:27:55 »
What is the symptoms of faulty camshaft sensor?

My Omega 2.2 Auto is spluttering and backfiring when it starts cold. After a few mins ticks over nicely at 1000 revs. Slight lack of power out on road though.

Thoughts??

By the way, I had it plugged in at the local dealer and the following codes came up

P0170 Fuel Correction (bank1 malfunction)
P0036 Oxygen Sensor Heater (bank 1 sensor 2)
P0700 Transmission Control System
P0650 Malfunction Indicator Control Circuit
P0141 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (bank 1 sensor 2)

They said it was the post cat lambda sensor at fault. I replaced it and the problems still there!

As long as "ECO" is not showing in the display, air con runs all the time climate is on.

First check is to see if the 3 lugs on the air con compressor pully are spinning when climate is on (also the 2 front cooling fans should be running at 1/2 speed).

If this isn't happening the refrigerant charge is probably low and the system needs vac'ing out, leak testing and refilling with refrigerant.

I know this is a bit old but came across it. My aircon is never very cold. I went to Quickfit who claim to top up aircon for £50. They tried but said that they couldnt because there must be a leak. Is there any way for me to determine where this leak is? Or if it is maybe another problem?
