Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Puddle Lights
« on: 30 June 2010, 07:43:35 »
Thanks to all for their tips & advice.

Job is now done.

It took a little longer than originally anticipated. I blew the circuit fuse whislt changing the bulbs and discovered that I had a dodgy bulb as well.

I ended up putting the lens covers back on with a dab of glue on each end as I couldn't get them to "click" back into place.

Still, pleased with the results although I'm now left with a worrying thought - does that now make me officially "gay"???????? :D

Thanks for the tip Samesame. I'll give that a go tonight and let you know if I was successful.

If I dont like the blue lights however, I'll put the originals back in. ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Puddle Lights

Don't mock, but I just bought me some "snazzy" blue LED's that I intended fitting in the puddle lights in the doors, but I'm b@ggered if I can work out how to access the existing festoon bulb.
I've tried sliding one way then the other, I've tried gentle prising but am now resigned to removing the door card.
Do any of you fine folks have any clues? :-[

Thanks for the advice guys.
I would have used a fused relay whatever option used but I like the sound of running it from the alternator.
I didn't really fancy the dashboard switch option for no reason other than damaging it. :D

I fancied fitting a set of the above ala Audi. Nothing too garish or "chavish" so opted for a discreet 5 x led slim fitting set to be fitted within the lower grille area.
The enclosed instructions offers two fitting options - 1) to be wired inst the side light circuit or 2) fitted via a switch mounted on the dashboard.
If I were to go for a third option and wire them so that they came on with the ignition and stayed on until I switched the engine off, where would be the best place to take the live feed from?
Thanks, in advance. :y

Omega General Help / Re: Head Gaskets.. howmuch grief?
« on: 12 February 2011, 11:42:34 »
Following a breakdown yesterday and the arrival of the RAC, my car was taken to a local garage where a blown cylinder head gasket was diagnosed.
Cost to repair - "in the region of £650" !!!!!!!! :'(

deejag94 - I have exactly the same situation with mine but the bub and it's fitting have come loose.
If you open the drivers door and release the side panel of the dashboard, you get access to behind the switch and I'm sure you'll find that the bulb and its holder have come loose from it's fitting.
I'm still trying to find out exactly where to refit it to but am not that worried as there is still some degree of illumination.

Omega General Help / Loose Bulb
« on: 11 October 2010, 10:31:53 »
Morning everyone - I have read the answer to my problem on the forum before but, for the life of me, I can't find it again.
I have a loose bulb behind the headlight/foglight switch & above the coin/storage tray to the right of the steering wheel.
I removed the side panel and have found the bulb in it's holder still connected to the cable but can't see where it refits into. There's not a lot of room in there to see very well so it's all done by feel only.
I was trying to judge it's proper position using the length of available cable as a guide but failed.
Can anyone who had a similar problem offer some advice please? :-[

Hi Greenman

I recently changed mine as part of its service and got a set of AC Delco R7002 from a local motor factors.
I cant remember how much they were but quite inexpensive.
The car runs well even if they were a cheaper option.

Hi 57velox - welcome to the OOF forum with your first post.
It's a known problem with the cam cover gasket, a job I'm just about to do for myself.
I found this maintanence guide on the forum but don't know if it's applicable to your model......

Omega General Help / Re: Start-up lumpy idle on 2.2
« on: 25 May 2010, 14:51:12 »
Erzy - at the risk of "jumping on the bandwagon", lets make that 4 OOFers.
For about the last week or so, I'm experiencing exactly the same symptoms as you.
I've had a trawl through previous postings and have discovered a "How To" for the Idle Control valve that Ken T mentioned above. I just haven't got round to doing it yet.
Work commitments are taking all of my time at the moment and, I suppose, the car runs fine after the first ten seconds or so. Will need to attend to it sooner rather than later though.
If you establish another cause before I have a go, could you let us all know. ;)

Omega General Help / Key Fob Battery Replacement
« on: 16 January 2010, 11:18:20 »
Recently, the action of the remote central locking has been getting poorer (several presses right up against the window required to unlock/lock the car). I was thinking that  I need to replace the battery in the key fob & have obtained the type suggested on here.
However, I'm b*ggered if I can work out how to access the fob to swap the battery. Has anyone else done this that can offer some advice?
I'm sure I also read somewhere that this operation must be completed within a time limit to prevent loss of memory(?)

Hi mate - you could try this company. I bought one for my 2.2 during the summer.
Excellent service and, I think, a quality product at a super price.......
