hi guys , thanks for your input, we did stethoscope the engine and its as u look at the engine, at the back left is where the rattling seems to be... the oil and filter was changed as per specs. i have run it for the last week with the new oil... im not losing power and except for the one instance last friday ive had no issues with her smoking on startup.. the next stage has to wait till i get paid, flushing oil (yes i know this can be iffy and bring hidden faults to the fore but start with the cheaper options before the stripdown) then run her on 5w 40 or 5w 30 for 200 miles. if that doesnt work then we're gonna start stripping her out and investigate further..the car still idles lovely and quiet and its still only at the point where the revs reach 3000 that the knocking noise starts, i got no loss in power and the fuel economy is still the same. and yes the mechanic did think of the obvious but he wants to cover the bases before he starts doing the more expensive stuff..will keep u informed next time we do something. have a good long weekend guys.

Yep, we did oil and filter change and ran her up again. Within five minutes I got the same awful rattle back. I've since been informed that this is a common problem. At best it's a case of clean the oil ways out and at worse it's a crack In the oilway and a very large bill....

ok..hi guys, back from my friendly mechanic.. we did an oil and filter change (just in case) correct oil as per spec, ran her up and within minutes i got the same horrendous knocking again.. looks like im in deep with this one.. he pulled out his trusty stethoscope and we had a listen to the left and right banks, you could really hear the difference, the right bank sounded what i would call correct, but the left side , you could hear the knocking very loudly and it didnt sound good.

anyone know where the best place to get lifters etc from and any ideas of price.. thanks guys, will keep u informed of this little drama just in case this helps anyone else.

could be... would that account for the burst of smoke when i started it ???

5
hmmm... maybe , but why only the one bank ??? thats whats got me mucking fuddled !!!!!

nope, sounds like tappets

No, as this was all done months ago.. she's been running fine for a long time. this has only started today.. i parked her up last night after returning from work, then this evening when i started her up she burped out this white (not condensation) grey smoke for about 3-5 seconds then stopped smoking . during this time i revved the engine to clear the smoke and thats when she started sounding rattly from what i discovered to be the left side as you look into the engine bay and the left "bank" this has only started today. she'd been running fine and dandy up till now...

nothing except for the usual sundries

oil and filter change
plugs
brake pads
discs all round
wishbones
aircon compressor
dash out and replace all those tiny bleeping bulbs
breather pipes
ooh and the coil pack (lovely job that !!!)

apart from the above , nothing serious

hello everyone HELP PLEASE

i have a r plate omega v6 2.5 which has 98.000 on the clock. today i started it and it smoked for about 5 seconds (white grey colour) then stopped. but when the revs rise to 3000, the left bank (as you look into the engine bay) is rattling . the rattling gets worse as the revs increase. it is only the left side which is rattling though ??? when the revs are sat at idle there is very little or no rattle ... can anyone shed some light on this please as ive had omegas for many years and its the first time ive ever come across this. oh and apologies if this is in the wrong bit... gaz
