Oh darn it. I bet I did that whilst struggling to get the clip off the large breather pipe at the back of the engine.        :-[

Any idea on what the part is called, or partnumber?

Omega General Help / Rough idle

So I decided to clean the breathers on the car.  Since then the car has a lumpy idle. Still goes fine .
I did notice the above which was at the back of the engine.
It looks like part of the breather system but could not see the other end that has broken off?
Could thisbe the cause of the lumpy idle?

Hope I have uploaded picture correctly.    :D

Omega General Help / Re: cambelt problems

Well after a day spent in the pouring rain, i am relieved and pleased to say , she lives!! Sounds like a bag of spanners as i broke one of the pipes at the back of the breather bridge. BUt at least its running again....

In hindsight the job was not as difficult as i anticipated. However my caveat to anyone considering this is, dont do what i did, and get carried away. Take your time and you can do it. It took me a total of three days to complete :D, but that is solely down to my own haste and idiocy. (i did not tighten the tensioner or rollers properly and my belt slipped on rotation  :-[ :'() You live and learn as they say  ;)

Great thanks to all the help and kind words from members of this site!!  ;D ;D :y

managed to get the belt on, i was being an idiot!!

Arrows in right direction, and got markings lined up with 1 and 2, but marks are way off on 3 & 4!

Now to cap it all I have made some big mistake. Went and rotated crank to check timing, but now cam 1 is retarded cam 2 is advanced and similar with 3/4. I assume that i did not have the tension set on the belt correctly!! Now everything is out and i do not know what to do to rectify the situation. Can the cams themselves be rotated (without the belt on) to realign???

Seriously thinking of just scrapping the damn thing  >:(

Hello me again!!

So got to TDC, cam locks now in. Old belt off. Installing replacement belt, got set correct with bottom markings, and markings on left bank are lined up!

However the markings for the right bank (3 & 4 ) are way out, something like 6 teeth behind where they should be. Also the belt is so tight i cannot get the lower idler in place!! >:(

Are there two different timing belt sizes? I ordered the belt (SKF) using engine number so assumed it should be correct

Going mad here as dont seem to be getting anywhere  :'(

ok,  Thanks guys. Will wait for the sun to come up then go and have another go!

Not been good so far as managed to snap one of the pipe connectors at the back of the breather bridge box, then did the blow/suck test on the multiram non-return valve, and managed to get quite a good tune out of it whilst sucking!!  :P ;D

At least i could get both parts from omegaspareparts on ebay  :y

Hi guys and gals

Been member here for quite some time. Used to own a PFL 2.5 CDX, which i sold some years ago. Have had many cars in the meantime, Ford Escort, Nissan Micra, Ford Mondeo, and lately an old Rover 600  :-[

Have been looking for an Omega for sometime now, as really missed my old car  :'(

Luckily have managed to get a FL 3.0 Elite on an X plate  :D! Very pleased with car, seems well looked after, full service history. Just need to get the cambelt done and probably change the ATF as it is original.

Will get pictures up when I get a chance

Hi Sir Jay am 20 miles from Plymouth in town called Kingsbridge....

Dont suppose you any good at breathers and rocker cover gaskets?? Mine need doing and am in process of looking for local garage to do the work, but am worried about getting it done right.

(Yes I should have a go myself, but lack of time and relevant tools, stops me... :()

I'm no expert .. I'm sure one will be along shortly to correct me - but I think the SAI (secondary air injection) is relatively unimportant, its a device to get cats up to temp quicker, and is removed from later engines.

I believe it only works for a short period every start-up, and other treads have mentioned removing the motor if it gets noisy. So I wouldn't rush to fix the pipe !!  :)

From a cosmetic viewpoint, and the fact I like things to work "properly", I would look for a replacement pipe from a scrappy, but not rush out urgently ..  :)

HTH

Thanks thats all I needed to know! At least I know I am able to get the car on the road and driving. :)

Omega General Help / Thickie question
« on: 16 January 2008, 14:48:32 »
Hi guys

have just replaced battery in my car and noticed that a pipe at the front is split.
Its right on the front of the car near to battery compartment and seems to be leaking air.
According to the engine bay pic that The Boy posted on Tech Info it seems to say SAI valve? :-? The pie running into the valve has a massive spilt in it.
So can anyone tell me what this is please?? Does it need patching up until it gets replaced?? As you can tell I am useless when it comes to car maintenance!!

Any help for the thick one greatly accepted!

Omega General Help / Replacing car battery
« on: 11 January 2008, 18:32:09 »
Hi hope you can help me

my car has been sorn and been sitting around in my garage and the battery is completely flat, no power at all.

Was thinking of replacing the battery as it is old, however I understand that the car alarm will go off if i disconnect the battery without first turning the ignition on then off and disconnecting within 15 seconds?!
So..if i get a replacement battery and just disconnect the old one will reconnecting the new battery cause major problems or will it just allow me to reset the alarm with the key fob??

Hope this makes sense and someone can help...
