Omega General Help / Re: Vin numbers

The 5 door estate are listed as F35 & the saloon is P69 but i'm told regardless of the body type or specification the last 7 numbers are in running build sequence.

Thanks again, I have a 2000 V registered elite that I have had from new, when it was my business vehicle it was maintained on contract by the main agent & they always said it was one of the last batch of elite's built & i'm now trying to confirm this from the vin number.
Kind regards.

Omega General Help / Cam Belt & roller kit
« on: 02 July 2010, 11:05:29 »
Hello all, as you can see I have just joined the owners  forum.

I need advise on three issues so any information will be greatfully received, I have a 2000 "V" registered "B" series 3 litre elite that I have owned from new & my local dealer tells me by the VIN number it was one of the last batch of elite's built, I'm now retired I do about 5k dry miles per year & have no intention of changing it for some modern heap.

So first question, I have only done 25k miles on the existing cam belt & rollers over the last 5 years & the belt looks ok I have been told two pieces of information that conflict one says that if the belt breaks all that happens is the engine will stop without causing any damage & the other says that if the belt goes it will cause massive damage as the pistons will hit the valves, what is correct as I dont want to wreck my engine but at the same time I dont want to spend out on a new belt & rollers if I dont need to.

Second question, at about 45k I had both the front wishbones changed because of excess wear of the bottom bushes, i'm now told that if the wishbones are genuine GM parts I can just have new bushes fitted is this so.

Third question, I live in Kent near the Dartford river crossing does enyone know of a mechanic who specializes in Omega servicing & general repairs in my area.

Kind Regards

Mike Cook :)

Dont dispare, there are lots of high quality mini facelift elite's out there & they are quite cheap, I saw a 99V for £1500 with only 60k on the clock.

Hello all, the more answers I get the more questions they raise.
First question. Who makes & what is the Y25TD engine?
Second question, what is the 5 speed auto box & who makes it?
Kind regards.

Thanks for all your info, I think I will stick with what iv'e got.
It seems we in the UK have been shafted again by another vehicle builder, it's no suprise that the UK is called treasure island by the motor manufactures.
Should I need an estate at a later date I will look at the BMW 5 series as it seems to have all that I should have been able to get from GM.
But only as a point of interest was my ideal vehicle ever produced for a foreign market?
Kind regards

Thanks for both of your replies, so I could fit parking sensors & change the wheels, what about fitting rain sensor wipers & would this be a 5 speed auto.
Regards.

So I could find my ultimate vehicle built in 2001 but would it be a 5 speed rhd auto & was there any spec changes between 2001 & 2003?
Kind regards.

Hello all, having had two omega's over the last 15 years I now realize just how little I know about them.
Having read many threads it seems there are lots of variants so this would be my perfect vehicle.
A 2003 rhd factory built elite estate with all the extras, fitted with the bmw spec 6 cylinder 2.5 td engine & a 5 speed auto box.
Was such a vehicle ever produced & where would I have to go to find this ultimate vehicle?
Kind regards.

In my area they are changing all the signs from speed camera to safety camera this is just another money making ploy, so beware.
