Omega General Help / Re: Head Gasket replacement - Over heating
« on: 03 August 2010, 23:08:30 »
if you did all the work yourself you would be looking around £250-300 in parts including Gasket set, Waterpump, Cambelt and tensioners etc

450 will see the gaskets replaced, oilcooler, waterpump, cambelt kit and any fluids/filter required

im lucky that i can do all the work myself but some just havent got the choice.  at a garage i would figure about £800-1000 for HG change with parts.

Got Water Radiator, Washer Fluid Bottle, Fuel Flap, Front Bumper with Fogs, OSR and NSR Handbrake Assembly including shoes/springs/levers/adjusters, inlet temp sensor and front multiram soliniod (sp).

all for £80 and in the right colour for the body panels :)

Oil cooler blew and well you all know the rest  :-[

Rebuilt using s/s oil cooler, new gaskets, thermstat, water pump, timing belt kit, removed the SAI

Flushed the block and heater matrix.

removed rad and flushed. soaked over 72hrs with a proper bio cleaner for oil sludge yet upon refiting it still over heats and over pressurises.

red hot pipes and stone cold rad apart from a slight warm patch up top.

Did compression test and came back at 210-225 across all 6 pots, took 3 cranks to get this figure... not bad for 170k  :o

so is my rad shot? i reckon its blocked with rust/sludge still

Omega General Help / Rear suspension overhaul
« on: 31 July 2010, 12:21:58 »
planning on doing a complete rear suspension and subframe overhaul in a couple of weeks.

I have a few questions regarding some bushes.

Can i fit the cheaper carlton subframe to chassis mounts?

The long threaded adjuster bar that goes from near the diff to the bottom of the hub carrier is called? trailing arm?

I have planned on removing one wishbone setup at a time, repainting, re-bushing and undersealing the rear of the car.
I would like to replace all the bushes in the arm but would you do that?

I dont plan of getting rid of the car at all as its a weekend toy.

Thanks
Rizo
