Thanks for the reply

First thing I did came up with:

21 Throttle position sensor voltage high
91 O2 Sensor 2 Circuit Voltage High

Just thought a scanner would give me a better idea it showed that the crank sensor was working ok but had a graph to show that the rpm sensor was going off and on every couple of seconds and eventually engine just cut out

So does this point to the cam sensor?

Omega General Help / Engine RPM Halls sensor problem
« on: 04 June 2011, 11:37:55 »
Hi guys I was wondering if anyone can help me.

The last few days I've had problems starting my 2000 Y FL 3.0 manual MV6 it all started when it suddenly cut out at lights did'nt think anything of it but the next time I tried to start it would turn over but would not fire, I kept trying and eventually after around 30 secs it did fire, it is now random when it wants to start. Just took it to someone I know with a snap on scanner and it wasnt showing any codes but he did notice that the halls or rpm sensor was only showing intermittently. Is this an easy fix? The dissy pack looks to be buried. Could it be something else?

I'm now without car till I can sort this so the taxi bill is going to be silly

Help Please!

In my opinion, and I know I could be wrong, unless you have a 200+mph supercar you do not need anything more than the brakes the car is equiped with; the original designers have specified brakes capable of dealing with the top speed of your car (150 mph with a Vx 3.0 V6) ;) ;)

You've obviously never owned an old ford, they go but don't stop.  :o

Hi Ive just joined because I am looking to buy an omega if I can find one in decent condition, preferably a FL 3.0, 3.2 MV6 or Elite model. Ive always loved these cars and think you get sooo much for your money, I miss my old Carlton 2.0 CD with GSI bodykit which I had as my second ever car and hope the Omega will bring as many smiles to my face as that did. Went to look at a silver 3.0 Elite in childer thornton cheshire today for £1500 and oh what a sad state it was in, looked great on the autotrader advert but when I got there it had paint (not just laquer) peeling off both front and back bumpers bubbling on one back arch and the other was completely rotten, all 4 wheels were badly kerbed, interior was clean though, so I started it up and immediately noticed the exhaust was blowing so looked at that and was also completely rotten with rust, looked underneath and the sump was black with a coat of oil so must have an oil leak somewhere, so still thought it may be worth a punt lots of things to knock the dealers price down and I would change wheels and exhaust anyway so asked for service history and all he had was book with stamps in and no evidence of cambelt change, its the first one Ive looked at please tell me they havent all been mistreated like this  :'(

As much as I do love my Omega and think it is a design classic compared to a lot of other cars, it has start to become frustrating. I had around 6 months of comfortable reliable motoring then it all went wrong. Its all little niggly things the solenoid on the petrol cap, the check strap on the drivers door, drivers door window doesnt go down all the way, stereo registers as on but no sound coming out of speakers, rust starting in various places wheel alignment wrong in spite of two attempts at different places, supercharger like whining noise under acceleration, grinding from back brakes and not a lot of handbrake even though I've took it to two mechanics about this problem one changed pads other just adjusted handbrake >:( , Just fix it not bodge it, sorry to rant but I just wish I could find a mechanic that I could go to and say this is whats wrong fix it please! MOT is due up on tues so at least the brakes may be sorted after retest, is it just me that finds it sooooo frustating looking after your car. I am a petrolhead always will be but unfortunately just can't do spanners tried and learned from my mistakes that I can't. But it is also so hard to trust part of your family with other people who just see it as a piece of metal. As you may be able to tell I havent had the best of experiences with mechanics so if anyone can recommend a non dealer (stealer) garage in the Wirral, Chester area I would be forever in your debt :D

Back on subject I had a Merc E320 CDI for 2 years as a taxi and as long as you can find one with no rust (they rot) mechanically they are amazing, I did 70,000 miles in mine and apart from the consumables, the only time I had to pay out is when the intercooler blew, interior is great as still looked new when I sold after about a thousand people getting in and of it. I love my new omega but I do miss the merc.

The wishbones fitted were from a company called first line, priced up the gm ones and they were ridiculously expensive. I was thinking now I have spare ones I could clean them up and fit polybushes, but where could I source them? powerflex only seem to stock one.  :-/
