Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Xenon HID's help please
« on: 07 February 2009, 16:29:38 »
hi all. got a bit of time on me' hands and thought i'd have a play.

I've got a spare xenon/HID balast, and spare HID bulb.

also got one of those 250million million candle power torch things.
(can you see where this is going...?) :o

Looking to mount the bulb in the usual place in the torch, the ballast in the battery compartment and a cable leading to backpack where the battery will be housed.

What type of battery would i need to power the bulb/balast?
amp hour rate?
12v yes?
how long would the battery last (question relating to the type of battery i select and the max weight i know-but a rough guide)

Thanks all, and SORRY if it's in the wrong section.

i've just installed 6x9's in the shelf. had to remove the carpeted shelf, cut two holes for the speakers to sit in. not an easy job, not sure about others but there was no holes in my shelf for any type of speaker to sit in??

however there is a speaker grill at the back of my shelf,so maybe better spec'ed models have speakers in the shelf as standard?

Omega General Help / Re: door skin estimate. what should i expect?
« on: 07 February 2009, 20:12:30 »

was looking at an estimate for new rear door skins (supplied by myself) to be put on the car in place of the exsiting ones which are showing signs of wear. they need replacing top and bottom so new skins are the obvious route.

i realise the work involved will include respraying surrounding panels to 'blend' in the new paint. had a quote this morning which was higher than i was expecting but i wondered what anyone else would expect to pay. work would include stripping, removal of old skin, applying new skin, all relevant paintwork etc.

anyone had this work undertaken before? i was quoted 600 in labour charges alone...

cheers, look forward to hearing from you

so the new skins will need spraying, so why not buy a pair of rear doors (ohh,i have 2 rear doors here-just remembered), fit them your self and have them sprayed....?
then it's just the cost of the re-spray.

must be easier and a lot cheaper?

no, there are not, they will need tech2 reprog.

If you speak to marksDTM he will be able to assist more

i think its a case of the same engine manual/auto, same size wheels, same spec.

Went out to start it.. rook a little while to turn over then started to run a little arratic....dropped it into drive the revs started going from just above 500 to 1500 so dropped it back into neutral and was then fine....

over the last couple of days the missus has been using the car whilst i've been away and when i got back home she said there had been a warning lite on the dash illuminated...after a trip to the car for her to show me it was the eml....but now not on..

i've sold a seat control unit to SteveMJ and now i've removed it and gone to post it, i had a quick lookie inside - nothing in the control box that relates to the control of the seat!

does anyone know where else the control unit could be located?

its a 2001 mv6 saloon - electric mirrors(think all omegas are) and seats!

Must admit I dont get why on the auto box its a 350Nm box vs 250Nm on the 2.5, but with the manual the 3.0 box is as said, only a little more torque max...why isnt the 3.0 manual box R35?? Cant see the engine being any different torque wise on a manual to an auto??

iv asked myself that a few times :P
isnt the r28 the manual commadore box too? and that has a V8 in :P

Yes and no, different guts in it.  :y

Went to vx yesterday to get sump plug rubber washer and 5 climate bulbs.

The parts bloke said that some of the climate bulbs CANT be replaced as they are built onto a pcb.???

Also he only had ONE dash bulb which he wasnt even sure if it was the right kinda bulb. Does anyone have a pic of a climate bulb please?? :y

he is talking about the facelift unit - can't be replaced DIY. but as they use a LED they rarely go anyhow, but yours are replaceable so best of luck

got a set for sale, removed from my 3.0 MV6.
They really do make a difference....
(in for sale section)

MV6 springs and shocks is the way I went on my Elite 3.2. I love them and would recommend buying his 2nd hand if they're in good nick.

You'll save a fortune and the car will look lower, but still stock. Personally I think 30 - 40mm is too much lower and the arches begin to look spread out too much if you know what I mean.

I can sell you out the standard MV6 shocks (all 4) with the PI -40mm springs fitted and will give you the old standard MV6 springs if you want to play about...?
This isn't the place to talk money so on the forsale section or PM  ;)
