Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Tailgate Release?
« on: 02 January 2007, 11:44:23 »
Hi Dan,
I've thought about a remote tailgate as well, like you I'm disabled, but don't need a wheelchair, or the hand controls - yet! I use crutches, but can get away with just using the roof rails to manouvre to the back, & as you say it would be so much easier to not have to stand/bend pressing the release etc. I can only stand for a very short time, so another + reason for the omega estate, the back sill/floor is a very comfortable perch!

I've seen a Honda estate, (Accord I think), with remote opening, have you got a Honda dealer near you? I wondered if you could go in to the showroom perhaps & see how they do it?

ATB,
John

Omega General Help / Rubber mat set or just drivers side?
« on: 21 February 2009, 18:04:59 »
Help! Where do I get a new drivers side mat or a set of the heavy duty rubber jobs? Last time I was lucky at the local dealer but was told they wouldn't be able to get them again :(

Cheers :y

Omega General Help / Re: Wheel alignment

I've been told by local tyre dealer that I should be taking the Omega to Vx to have the alignment checked, as he won't touch them any more. Anyone had it done by Vx or indeed any other company?

I would tell your local tyre dealer that he's a wayne kerr, & take my Omega somewhere else to buy tyres & have the tracking done!

I've had no problem with the local KwikTit & their laser beam gear, last time mine was done more proper like was at Vx main dealer. Luckily my son has friends in all the right places :y

Good Luck,
John

In defense of Irmscher alloys, my 17" twinspokes have been marvellous  :y
The tyres I've got - Nankang NS1 sports - have a bit of a rim protector moulding, but in all fairness I have clouted a few potholes & not suffered any damage  ::) yet  :-/

I believe many Saab wheels fit Omega hubs, IIRC they're 110mm PCD, just check the offset, again IIRC Omegas are 35/37mm, I'm not 100% on that though.

Good luck
If they are the prefacelift MV6 Irmscher alloys, then you have been lucky.  They are very soft...

Not p/f - but genuine Irmscher replacements bought from Germany, not black around the centres.

Maybe the wind & rain has got in somewhere it shouldn't have?
As someone elses signature says, have you checked the fuses?
Assuming it's turning over & not firing - petrol? OR - Have you moved some wires around/loosened a connector?

average mpg is calculated on fuel flow and re-calculated every 18 miles I think hence when running low on fuel and you top it up it takes a little while for your range figure to be re-calculated and increased

I've always found when I've filled up, the new range figure is there as soon as I go through the options to reset the necessary.

One step sideways - - - my son visited me today, he thought the display on mine said INSERT COINS - not INST CONS  ::) HE'S JUST AS RIGHT  :o

The thing is quite stupid really. It simply divides amount of fuel used by number of miles since it was last reset....

That's a very disappointing reply TB, which I find hard to believe, why does it give a instant consumption figure which is then apparently not used in calculating the trip total figure?

I have often seen the remaining mileage figure go up during a trip, after a spell of more economical driving, so surely that rules out your simplistic fuel/miles theory?

Omega General Help / MID - How clever is the computer?
« on: 13 January 2007, 12:48:30 »
The last couple of months I've been doing NO long journeys, max maybe 25 miles round trip, mostly local shopping etc, so as expected I'm getting terrible consumption readings, often 14 - 17 mpg from 20 quids worth!

BUT - I have had the engine running quite a lot whilst waiting outside in the cold for SWMBO, when the display shows usually 0.3gph.

So the question is - does the clever bit work out how long at 0.3gph for example, & calculate it into the overall total MPG or what?
I know it ain't going to make the world of difference - but every little helps, & it just got me thinking  :-/

Cheers, time for my medication  :P  ::)

And don't overlook the even more obvious - is it the right key? :-/

Bob - if you want my advice:- If it's the car you want, colour spec etc. GO FOR IT  :y
However if you wanted something else - DON'T!  :-/

It looks bloody nice in the ad, get your arse down to the showroom & check it over - & TAKE A MATE  :) 2 heads are always better than 1  ::)
It's a serious amount of motor for the money, not to mention; if the Reg No. is the same as the 'Vehicle ref, No.' ie BJ52X, & if it comes with? - if you don't have it - I will.

Good luck,
John

Omega General Help / Re: Exhausting question
« on: 17 November 2006, 19:05:13 »
Hi Ricardo,
If you're going to keep this one? Why not go for a stainless system? I know it costs a bit extra outlay, but just imagine - no worries for the next xxx years!

I went to www.longlife.co.uk & am well pleased, they will custom make a system for you just how you want it  :y

No: I don't work for them  ::)

Cheers,
John

I have a Power flow system fitted at TOP GEAR Northwest Ltd BURNLEY. They did a complete cowboy job on mine. What they did was cut the pipes off at the cats and joined on from there, god knows why they didn't use the flanges that are already there like there supposed to. Also where each piece slides onto the other they made it too big and the joints aren't a nice fit so after the sealant they used broke down with the heat from the cats it started blowing. And this was there second attempt at it after they made a mess of there first attempt. Had to get Ron Jordan onto them after there first attempt, but after there second go I have just given up on them http://www.zen17068.zen.co.uk/Powerflow.JPG  So this all means if I want rid of the exhaust I have to replace the cats as well, am not amused. So if you do goto power flow be VERY careful which one you use

The welding on that looks like a monkey did it! Not being rude to monkeys of course - I believe they are very intelligent, but perhaps not too good with welding gear  :'(

talking of exhaust makers...anyone had or got a powerflow system?

Same as powerflow! I went to www.longlife.co.uk & had a custom made job from the cats back, chose the mid sports option, with a oval tailpipe that fits in the bumper contour just right. Couldn't wish for better, 2 hour job, with free coffee & internet access while you wait, custom made to fit,  sounds superb, looks a treat & lifetime warranty.  :y

As for the flanges on the cats, who'd want to keep them? If I ever want the cats replaced, they will do the job, & who would ever want to go back to a standard system?  :o

Next time it's on a ramp I'll get a picture - didn't think about it when it was done!  :-/

Cheers, John.

...Does anyone know if the quoted 0-62 times are using the sports button or standard?..

I don't think that matters, the 0-60 sprint is done with the right foot all the way down and I think that the autobox will change at the rev limiter anyway, the Sports mode will only affect driving if the pedal is not down to the nail.

What are you talking about? The sport mode makes the change up at higher revs, or put another way - hang on to the lower gear longer - in this example '0 - 60/62 sprint' we're only talking one change; 1st to 2nd so IMHO it makes a hell of a difference!
