Advice please
« on: 17 November 2006, 16:46:02 »

I'm thinking of buying this car and would appreciate any advice and opinions.
http://www.cargiant.co.uk/cars/detail.asp?Id=294863

Also, would it be worth going for a part exchange deal on my Omega or should I sell it privately? If private, what sort of money could I expect for it?
For those of you that didn't see it at Santa Pod, it's a 1999 Omega CD 2.5 V6 Estate in an unusual metallic green, details as follows:-
148K, cambelt & tensioners done at 132K, last service (minor) at 142K. Also have had new front shocks, drop links and track rod ends done recently. Fairly detailed service history. Runs like a dream but have a minor oil leak to sort out. The usual few stone chips and small "dinks" for its age but nothing major. Has a few rust spots on a couple of doors. That's about it really.

Cheers guys.

**edit** Forgot to mention, also had HBV done about 2K mile ago.

thats a stunning car on paper - obviously very very detailed inspection required  :y

and also its a few miles from a major service and cambelt change  :-/

Its exactly what i would buy model wise.

For yours - please dont take it as an insult but were really not getting good money for our barges right now.....£1200 at an initial guess for ebay if your lucky, maybe a few hundred more as p/x.

Obviously to us its worth a lot more  :y

Cheers Mark. Yes, I thought it looks quite stunning too but I'll book a test drive and give it a good look over, but not being very good when it comes to car mechanics I'd like to take someone with me that knows what they're doing. If there's any of you guys out there in my area that wouldn't mind coming with me to look at it, the beers would be on me.

As far as my car goes, I really didn't expect any more than you mentioned but it will be interesting to see what they might offer in PX.

look it over very closely - theres no badges on it at all :o yes okay they can be removed.

And i may be wrong but are those mv6 alloys? certainly the interior is. The alloys look slightly different to mine ( i have facelift mv6 alloys)

Maybe check log book just to be safe and 100% sure if your serious  :y

Bob - if you want my advice:- If it's the car you want, colour spec etc. GO FOR IT  :y
However if you wanted something else - DON'T!  :-/

It looks bloody nice in the ad, get your arse down to the showroom & check it over - & TAKE A MATE  :) 2 heads are always better than 1  ::)
It's a serious amount of motor for the money, not to mention; if the Reg No. is the same as the 'Vehicle ref, No.' ie BJ52X, & if it comes with? - if you don't have it - I will.

Good luck,
John

Bob, don't raise your hopes too much on a PX, they will probably only offer you auction price.

Cheers John. It is exactly the car I've been looking for over the last few months. I wouldn't normally go for silver as there's so many silver cars on the road at the moment, but I have to say it looks damn good. Hoping to get up there this weekend to look and test drive.

Use the need for a cambelt to negotiate some discount. If you do it/get it done yourself you'll then know it's been done. It's all too easy for a dealer to say it's been done.

Great lookin car man, I would have no hesitation in buying that at that price, car giant will do a trade in, minimum would be a grand 1k...my last two meegas I bought from car giant, cheapest car supermarket in the country (I done my homework). Down side is when you get there don't expect to just pay and drive the car away, allow at least 3/4 hours. They may ask you to come back, as they have to do their 114 point check, B4 you can drive away. However, in terms of if you should have any problems after wards their aftersales is good. I only had one issue with the first meega, the steering wheel was out eg not in the centre, when wheels where, that was after there 114 check...LOL ;D ;D, took it back though they fixed it, did'nt cost me a penny.

Lookin for second hand cars would always recommend car giant, I a actually surprised they are still selling meegas, my last two have all been under 2 yrs and just over 2 yrs when I bought. :y :y GO FOR IT MAN
