removing phone kit and fitting Parrot CK3100
« on: 03 March 2012, 18:09:06 »

Hi all,

my 2000MY facelift with CDR500 has a Nokia 'Bury' phone kit installed, which we need to remove, and we want to fit my Parrot CK3100 in its place.

We've bought the adaptor lead for the Parrot Kit already as per another thread on here.

Phill removed the head unit today, and managed to remove the metal cage that the unit sits in, but the metal cage sits inside a plastic cage, and he can see no way to get this out.  All the wiring for the exisiting phone kit is behind this, so we are a bit stumped as we cant see how to get to it.

Any advice on how to remove the plastic cage gratefully received.

cheers,

Claire

It's fairly straight forward Claire.  This should help...

Many phone kits are wired into the phone prewiring above glovebox - have you checked here?

Wiring behind that plastic cage can be a pain, as its awfully tight behind there.

Not tried a Bury kit but from my experiences I wouldn't recommend the 3100 Parrot kit... I have one in the van and I'm not overly impressed. Fortunately it also has a factory fitted kit which is much better ;)

I should have added, each to their own. It may well work better with a different handset/vehicle :-[

I had the Parrot CK3100 in my Astra, and it was great, plus they are not as bulky in the car as a phone kit.

Did all F/lift Omega's come with phone pre-wiring as standard?  We've decided to wait on changing the phone kit until I get my new interior parts from Twiglet, as removing the old phone cradle has left nasty screw holes in the panel that goes around the radio, so decided no point in taking the car apart twice, might as well fit replacement interior parts and Parrot kit at the same time.

Also, if I disconnect the completly annoying Trafficmaster Oracle, will that stop any phone kits working?  I was reading a thread on here that seemed to suggest that the phone wiring is linked to the Trafficmaster - its just so annoying, that if the car has to turn over for more then a few seconds to start, the Trafficmaster butts in, and other half is getting fed up of me yelling at it to STFU  ;D

it was great in my Astra, really clear and very easy to use.  I've not got a BOSE system in my Miggy, but I doubt that will make much overall difference.

cheers for all the replies and help   :y  ,

It could well be the setup in the van TBH... I use the built in kit most of the time and it's only my spare phone connected to the parrot

Depends how you do it. Just remove the TM box, yes, it will break the phone.  Remove the TM box and the extension loom (the TM loom plugs into the car looms iso36 connector, and the other end clips on back on radio cage), then, no, it won't break phone.

For course, if you'd like to donate your TM box and loom (and button, if you're replacing that trim as well) to your favourite Admin ::)  ;D

Seriously, you could do some wiring at the TM box end to bypas it. But if the radio cage is coming out, its much easier to refit without TM loom, due to bulky nature of the extra plugs...

well if you want Mrs Trafficmaster, you're welcome to her!!  lol  Sounds like another nice little job for Phill    8)

Just sorting out with Twiglet when I can go and fetch the parts I want for my car, so once we've got those, we can make a start on sorting the interior, electrics, phone kit and other little jobs out.  I want the car spot on for when we take it France in June  :)
