Memo to self: never ask for advice on here and expect helpful responses. ::) ::)

A standard set of DECT cordless phones would be the ideal

I had given thought to that when you first posted. I have Panasonic DECT cordless phones, but you can't page individual handsets. In fact, you can only page all handsets from the base and the base unit is in the lounge where the BT line comes in (I don't have any extensions) and I would prefer to be able to call from the kitchen. I could look round for a new DECT system which has the ability to call individual handsets, so I haven't ruled it out. Also, I don't know about others, but in my house the handsets always go missing.  ::) ::) ;)

Must be old handsets then

We have a set of 4 Panasonics (cost sub fifty quid) and you can intercom from any handset to any other (plus you can name them), works very well.  :y

Ah, thanks Mark. I'll investigate that option further. :y

My Panasonics are not that old, so following Mark's post, I dug out the instruction book and.....

Now I have an intercom facility. :y
