If you are EVER offered a tow of more then 5 miles .... do your best to turn it down..... !!

What folks forget, is that whilst being towed on either a rope (bloody dangerous) or even on a bar (much safer) with the engine stopped the power steering does not work .... after about 5 miles the arms are aching and the blood pressure is rising .....

BTW .. before anyone comments .. the reason a rope tow of an Omega is bloody dangerous is the brakes will, effectively, cease to work after the 3rd press... at least on a bar tow there is a chance of stopping !!!

Fixed. :y

Agreed regarding the effort involved, though.

As you suggest ... you're very quickly reminded that there's no assistance when being towed. I forget now whether we used a bar or a rope when I ripped the sump plug from my car & needed to be towed home by my Dad. I know it was bloody hard work stopping it.  :o :o :o

So,up this morning ready to fight the good fight and fit a crank sensor. Now where's my sockets?Sugar they're in the boot of the Jaguar which is being kept off road 2 miles away!Set off for the walk and part way there it began to rain,by the time I got back home I was wet through and just as I got in the door it stopped raining!!!Let things be for a while to make sure rain wasn't going to start again then went to make a start.Jack up car, place axle stand under it and also leave trolley jack in place as a "belt and braces"approach.Crawl under car to find my sockets only go as small as a ten and I need an eight!Double sugar!!So leave car up in air put tools in boot and set off on another mile walk to Halfords, purchase said socket[£3.49!]and return to the fray.Engine end out time to be under bonnet for electrical connector, where the hell is it?It's nowhere near the bracket above the coil pack, finally found it under other pipework/electrical wiring back up against the bulkhead.I'm guessing the failed sensor was the original as it was routed up behind exhaust etc.Right so that's fitted with the wiring routed out to the inner wing and up over cable tray, scuttle and wipers back on and car dropped back onto floor.Time then to go for an engine start and hope that a]It was indeed a crank sensor problem that caused the breakdown and b]that I've done everything right!Turn key engine spins once, engine spins twice, engine spins for a thir no she's up and running!!!Nice even beat, steady tick over drives like a good 'un.What a relief!!Had I not been a member on here and read all these posts about such things I'd have had to pay someone to diagnose/fix problem and might well have got ripped off in the process.Once again the power of OOF and the spirit of it's members in sharing their knowledge shines through!!

Well done Baz, you certainly suffered enough getting that fixed. I keep a spare crank sensor in the boot of the 3.2, and a set of tools on long journeys. :y :y :y

PS I've lived in Epworth & Haxey
