Break down
« on: 15 February 2014, 16:32:39 »

Went out to car this morning and it started just fine, drove about 4mls and parked up,went shopping for an hour or so got back to car and although it turned over well enough it wouldn't start. After a further quarter hour or so it started up as though nothing had happened, then drove about another10 mls and parked up waiting for the dragonlady for a couple of hours, car was then very difficult to start but eventually did and ran fine for about another 3mls when it just died[on a very busy roundabout too!]managed to coast it off roundabout and called AA.He didn't even bother to look at it[although in fairness we were in a fairly precarious place to be fixing a car]and towed us the couple of miles to home.Am I right in thinking crank sensor? As long as weather is o.k. tomorrow I might change it anyway as I've got a spare in the glovebox[seemed to be advised on here to carry one so I did!]

That's what I figured from the stuff I've read in various posts on here.Another new one on me is towing a car with an auto box.I always thought this to be a big no-no unless the drive wheels were off the floor or the prop shaft was disconnected, the AA man looked it up on his computer and said that you could tow a Mig auto at up to 50m.p.h.for up to 50miles.Now we were only towed for a couple of miles at less than 40 m.p.h.,but still I hope he was right!

Towing an auto with the propshaft connected is less than ideal, but for that distance should be ok :y

Just for interes Baza, I'd like to hear the outcome after crank sensor changed.  Sounds like the number 1 suspect...

Mines a manual but it still says to raise the front when towing (put it on a dolly).

Old school mechanical autos can be tow started :y

The electrickery in newer ones is a bit over sensitive to such brutality ;D
