I had the crank sensor fail on my`1994 2.5 and on my 2003 2.6. The symptoms were the same as yours.  In neither case did I get any codes.

Cheers. Well, I have to go and pickup my air-con valve anyway so may as well get the sensor at the same time. Looks like it is going to be a busy week!

Put new sensor on last night and took it for a 20 mile drive. No problems so hopefully that has sorted it.

The routing of that old cable is bl**dy ridiculous. I've actually left the old one for now until I'm sure it is cured although I'll cut the ends off next time I'm under there. Oil change due soon anyway.
