Caliper rebuild .....
« on: 26 May 2014, 20:13:59 »

I have a sticky rear caliper, was an advisory on the MoT and I really need to get it sorted before too long...

Is there a kit to rebuild the caliper or is it easier to just swap 1 for a working item..?

If anyone could post any links or advice for refurbing a rear caliper, would be appreciated...

I couldn't see an easy way so just changed mine. Got a good lump of the cost back when I returned the faulty one :-)

There very simple to swap the seals on but you need to be confident the bore is not pitted from rust (leaking calipers are a sure sign of poor brake fluid maintenence at some point in the vehicles life).

The caliper sets on the Omeag are very reliable so second hand is a good option.

What I was thinking of was changing the caliper and rear disc for the vented type as mine hasnt got the vented discs on the rear...

I know they are thicker and the calipers are spaced to accomodate, but mine looks like a Vectra rear caliper....? So Im presuming if it is, I could get a pair from a scrappy, rebuild them both, then fit.... so if they are the same as the Vectra's I would have plenty to source from...

Omega rear calipers are:

Rear-Left; With Solid Discs; (>Ch.) W1069516  Part No: R1740052
Rear-Right; With Solid Discs; (>Ch.) W1069516  Part No: R1740053
Rear-Left; With Solid Discs; (Ch.>) W1069517  Part No: R1740066
Rear-Right; With Solid Discs; (Ch.>) W1069517  Part No: R1740067
Rear-Left; With Vented Discs  Part No: R1740090
Rear-Right; With Vented Discs  Part No: R1740091

For Vectra B, no part numbers match the vented type for the Omega, I cant check the Vectra C ones at the moment

Vectra C ones include that farcical self adjusting releasing handbrake mechanism, so I wouldn't bother :y

And 29 years after some bean counter invented them, they still don't work ;D

And all for ten minutes saved on the assembly line ::)

The Vectra caliper/disc combination is different from the vented Omega caliper/disc...

There was at one time a kit you could buy to space the Vectra rear caliper to fit the Omega vented rears... not many bothered with the conversion TBH and just went for the Saab rear vented disc and caliper instead as they are a straight swap....

Thanks for the part numbers though MarkDTM :)
