Heck of a road!
« on: 07 December 2014, 18:26:11 »

The widest road in the world the Monumental Axis in Brazil is wide enough and has space for 160 cars to drive side by side.Imagine the cones to narrow that down to one lane for miles on end while no one works on the resurfacing!

Perhaps they all drive Daewoo's and know they don't have enough power to overtake anything....so they get a lane each  :-\ ;D

Nowt wrong with a daewoo, lad. Buy cheap, hammer it, throw it away. I've had it over a year now, if I get another three, I'll be happy. Reckon I'll have  put about 50000 miles on it by then.

That could be closer to the truth then many people realise Liz considering what the Brazilian Air Force have just bought and how its home nation operate it   ;)

I've driven on a road near Pumakale in Turkey which, way up in the mountains, is used as an Emergency Runway when necessary.

Very odd driving along, then suddenly, all the markings for the runway appear along with rubber from the aircraft's wheels.

No central reservation on that one, though!  ;)

The autobarns (sp) in germany were intended to be used as makeshift runways in case of a war.

Partially correct, as in fact the autobahn building programme had been started before Hitler came to power by the  Weimar Republic, and before the path to war, but the Fuhrer took the credit and expanded the network. ;)
