Help needed in getting 2.5TD ECU upgrade
« on: 24 September 2014, 18:58:53 »

Now I've got my Omega MOT'ed for another year and I still have some monny, I wish to get my ECU chiped up to the BMW spec.

Can you please let me know who I need to contact to get this work done.  I live in the Coventry area but can travel if needed.

Thanks for your advice.

Manual, don't know if R25 or R35. It's a 1999 2.5TD CDX Manual Estate.

Ah-ha, so X25DT manual, that'll be a 427 ECU, happy days :y

You need to open the ECU to see if its socketed. Chip guy I used for my TF can either post, or is about 5 miles from m40 jnc9

You'll need to unsolder old chip, and solder in a socket.

Needs a decent iron, as hobby irons cannot heat some of the pins quick enough without putting in excessive heat.

Just got an uprated ECU from a chap in NI, he also included the chip that goes in the key, how ever the car runs without me changing this chip. Have I just been very lucky and both my old ECU and new one have the same code, or is there something wrong?

There are chips and CHIPS, I have had 3 different ones, but the one via TB is the full-fat, and really does make a difference. ::) ::) ::)

Well just tried the key with no chip fitted and the car will both start and run. I didn't know that it was possible to bypass the immobiliser . very strange.

The new ECU chip has differently made a difference, but I'll find out more in a few weeks when I will be towing the caravan.

Its the fact that the car will run with no key chip that I don't understand.

Well just got back from a weekend away with the caravan.

The car deffinatly pulls better with the new chip, not as much gear changing needed, but it is using more fuel. Last time I averaged 28mpg with the van, but only got 26mpg this weekend.

Another strange thing that happened a few times was, when trying to start the car the yellow light with engine simble would flash. Acording to the owners manule this is an immobilizer fault, after taking the key in and out of the barrel a few times the light will go out and the car will then start.

I think it is time to get the car cheaked out on Teck2 as there is deffinatly something going on with the immobilizer. Who or where is the best place around Coventry to take it into?

Have a quick check inside the key, make sure the little square transponder chip is secure in its housing. I had a similar problem with an intermittent key that was the chip moving inside the key... small blob of superglue to secure the chip and it was sorted.

Might not be your problem, but worth a quick check ??

My chipped tractor had improved economy when cruising around (but less when hoofing it...  ...which most of the time)
