Bugger! I broke my Xperia....
« on: 23 January 2015, 18:06:49 »

I dropped my phone onto a tiled floor a couple of days ago and it appears that the mic is not working.  :'(  It's OK on speaker phone mode, but people can't hear me on normal mode.  :-\  All other functions like internet, camera etc seem fine.  :y

I've no phone insurance, so what to do?  ???

1) Take it back to 3 with innocent outrage and demand a replacement/free repair?  ???

2) Take it to dodgy backstreet shop for repair?  :-\

3) Revert to my old phone for a couple of months when I'm due an upgrade anyway?  ::)

4) Speak to everyone on speaker phone and let the world and his dog eavesdrop on my conversations.  :o

5) Chuck it in the bin and live in the stone age, on the basis that the only people that phone me are demanding money/favours!  >:(  :D  ;D

Sigh! As a certain rubber fetishist ex OOFer might say.  ::)  ;)

In golf, the club I first thought of is invariably the right one. ::)

And it is rarely the one I use. :-[

A spot of googling suggests it's a common software glitch as opposed to broken hardware, after all the mic works on speaker phone.  :y

Am about to delve into the inner workings of my phone! ::) Wish me luck!!  :D

Does your bank not offer free phone insurance?

1) Take it back to 3 with innocent outrage and demand a replacement/free repair?  ???
How long have you had it?
Anything more than 28 days and they will simply send it off for repair, and user damage is quite easily detected

2) Take it to dodgy backstreet shop for repair?  :-\
Always an option.

3) Revert to my old phone for a couple of months when I'm due an upgrade anyway?  ::)
Always another option, you're paying more than the cost of the handset and talktime in your monthly rental.

4) Speak to everyone on speaker phone and let the world and his dog eavesdrop on my conversations.  :o
The world and it's dog already have one half of the conversation by listening to you.

5) Chuck it in the bin and live in the stone age, on the basis that the only people that phone me are demanding money/favours!  >:(  :D  ;D
The answer to that comes in the form of the question "Do you actually need a smartphone to start with"?

Probably not.....  :-\

So it seems that the solution is to take it back to factory settings, however that wipes my contacts etc. So I backed it all up on the PC Companion and then realised that I've saved about half of my contacts to the sim and half to the phone, so it's only backed up the phone contacts.  ::)

I then decided to open another beer......  :D  :y

Don't forget option 6... Drop it down the stairs and give your household insurance a call...

It's not fraudulent if you actually drop it down the stairs quite by accident...
