1998
Left side driver seat, starter in on the left I guess...
What's hbv?

1998(/99?) do tend to suffer hg issues. Usually left side behind the dis PAC bracket behind cylinder 6. But i guess it's best to count out the simple things first.

:-\ I guess you right, i need the vacuum hose and I can't get it anywhere, any ideias?

How many Heater Bypass Valves there are?
I only see one at the front near the radiator and fan, but i suppose you're refering to the one on the back of the engine, right?

There is only one.

Your looking at a multi ram, also vacume operated. But not the same at all.

Hbv is right at the back of the engine, under the scuttle. You can't see it normally. But it does sound like you will need to remove the scuttle to see what's going on back there.

Another case happily closed!

The loss of coolant was due to a small hose that connects the engine to the HVB.
The hose it is broken, has a cut that only opens when pressure rises... my advice is:

Change all the hoses close to the engine as they suffer from excess wear due to high temperatures and engine vibration.
So if you get loss of coolant first:

- put an eye on the floor
- if you find water on the floor check the position
- if it points to the back of the engine possible malfunctions are: HBV, Hoses or Heating radiator
- if it points to the sides check all the hoses again plus head (it can be cracked)
- also check for damaged hose or expansion tank
- expansion tank cap also gets broken very often
- if it points to front than check the front radiator the water must be hot on the main hose that comes from engine and the bottom hose must be less hot
- also check the fan and please at this stage the car must be running so be wise and do not put your hands or objects near the fan has it can get serious damages!
- use gloves and protect your eyes!
- do not give up and you will get to the promise land :)

This is my little contribution to you guys.

Beware!
