Three parts inside coolant bottle
« on: 14 April 2016, 17:36:42 »

Hello
I was cleaning my coolant bottle by filling it with hot water and shaking etc. At the end I found three loose parts in the bottom of the bottle; two washers one metallic with big hole and one plastic one with small hole and then a float as well.

How to put them back and in which order. Do I miss some parts? Difficult to understand how the float is locked.

The Float clips / push fits on, sounds like you've furbed the whole thing.  ::)

If you ever come across those wooden ships in the bottles, leave them be.  ;D

They're alleged to be 'about £20' from the dealers. This is about a decade out of date, and minus the vat.

I think nearly £40 is the current price. I'd normally be fine recommending a low mileage used example, but if someone on here were to have one for sale, I'd imagine postage to Finland would bring it to about the price of one from you local Opel dealer.  :-\

I've got an excellent spare creamy one for sale, but it's from a 2.2 DTi, and doesn't have a level sensor in it.  :(

Agree with Andy above, probably best brand new.

So have to buy brand-new?

You could remove the broken float parts and bridge the wiring plug to turn off the warning light. That will save you about €50.

If you want it to work as designed, then a new tank is the way to go.

Good point nick. To the OP, if you fancy this route, like I say, I've got one here if it's any good.  :) Cars went about 100 years without coolant level sensors  :y

OK, thanks for all. I'll buy a new one, better to have the level sensor working as it is available. No need to open the bonnet too often.
