Sport mode on auto box
« on: 16 April 2016, 12:34:03 »

I have lways believed that sport mode on an auto box merely changed the point on rev scale where box changes up. Last night in the pub a friend with a Jaguar auto  announced how much better his car is in sport mode. I claimed that all that did was cheange gear change points, no said Honda owner Chris, it also remaps the ECU. Rubbish, said I. Who ws right?

You might both be right, but on an Omega all it does is move the shift points  :y

Both :y Sport button on the current Vauxhalls tightens up the throttle response, firms up the suspension if adaptive damping is fitted and numbs the power steering a touch. On an auto it also adjusts the shift points up the rev range.

Sport mode on the gearbox will simply adjust the shift points up and possibly tell the engine ecu to tweak the throttle at change points so as to not kill the gearbox :y

The zafira sport button makes one hell of a difference.

Keep meaning to compare it to another as I gather they can be used to hold and then switch to a  remap too...

How could a remap improve things?

This is the diesal zafira, not the omega....
Sport button there changes the gear change points and nowt more.

on the zafira, it makes the car one hell of a lot more responsive.
