So I was going to change my cam cover gaskets today for the upteenth time, but I cannot remove the throttle cable ball joint! 

I've pulled the pin and have been trying to free it but it won't budge and I'm making very little progress.    I've always found it to be a bit of a PITA but have always managed it before. 

What am I doing wrong?

When you do get it apart I suspect that there will be a wear ridge on the connector that is holding it together. This will have been caused by dirt mixing with whatever lubricant had been applied making a weak grinding paste.

Give it several copious squirts of brake cleaner while rotating the connector.
