can i turn off the really annoying dialogue box that comes up everytime my pointer passes over something. all it seems to do is tell me what i already know.  >:( >:( >:(

If this is a PC thing, some apps have a balloon notify option you can turn off

yeah it is me pc. when ever i move my pointer around the screen i get a stoooopid dialogue appear telling me what i'm pointing at. just wondered if it can be turned off.

Have you lately reduced the double-click timing? Tooltips appear after an idle timeout which is related to the double-click speed.

Its only the smilies that do that on my machine.  Dunno how to fix it on yours though....
