Gearbox update
« on: 04 August 2008, 13:12:30 »

First question - I presume on a 2000 3.0 Elite Auto, that the Autobox ECU is flashable for an update?

Secondly, what are the general opinions on people who have had gearbox updates. Noticable? Good/Bad? Any difference on fuel?

Also what specifically is changed, eg changepoints?

Yes, should be doable, but our 2000 W reg wasn't - purely down to an unusual firmware version.

Changes much smoother / less noticable , car feels more powerful.

Not noticed any fuel difference.

DEFINATLEY worth doing.

Before I had mine done, Ljay said why bother, cant make much difference.  2 mins driving it afterwards, she says can mine be done  ;D

That said it all.

I agree with Jimbob. No real difference to the shift points or strategy of the box, but the refinement of the changes is much improved. It knows when to make a hard change and when to make a softer change with the new firmware.

I also found the car felt much more responsive at low speed. Less "slip" in the transmission, although I don't understand the mechanism by which the firmware could have changed that. :-/

No difference in fuel consumption here either.

I'd recommend it too. :y

Seems a lot smoother with no consumption difference.

I've had mine upgraded over a year now so tend to have got used to it. Would need to drive a non-upgraded one to refresh my memory.

My fuel economy plummetted, and my rear tyre wear increased dramatically.  Sooooo much fun to be had coming off the roundabouts in Milton keynes ::)

Once I'd got over the initial fun, no difference  to economy, just an improvement in drive, and smoother change

Vectra Elite Estate doing good post-Omega service but still not as nice to sit in.

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!
