The EU is modelled on the USSR, with an all powerful unelected and unaccountable General Secretary (President), supported by a Politburo (EU Commission) made up of Commissars (EU Commissioners) who are appointed by the Socialist Soviet Republics (EU Member States) and a Duma (EU Parliament) that cannot iniate legislation, just rubber stamp whatever is handed to them by the Politburo (EU Commission).

The American system certainly has its faults. One thing I find bizarre are the Executive Order powers that the POTUS has. In recent times we've seen both Trumpy and Sleepy Joe sat at the Oval Office desk with a stack of Executive Orders they are about to sign with no Congressional oversight.
I'm sure that St Obomber, Dubya, Bubba/Big Dog et al used them extensively as well.
Thank God, Starmer doesn't have such powers!
Although he does seem quite happy to use the very same Henry VIII powers (Statuary Instruments) to change the law that he often slagged off the Torys whenever they used them.
